How to Identify Confined Spaces

Limited Openings for Entry and Exit

Unfavourable Natural Ventilation
Not Designed for Continuous Worker Occupancy
E.g. Storage tank , Vessels , Under ground utility vaults , Large bore pipes etc.

The following safe system of work shall be followed while working in confined space

Carry out the TOOL BOX TALK prior to work and adequate PPE to be worn.

Suitable and sufficient TRA should be carried out to identify all the possible hazards and
associated risk.

Permit to work procedure is followed and implemented for the confined space.

Gas testing has been done and recorded on the log sheet and permit.

Provide proper fire extinguisher, fire blanket and trained fire watcher should be
available on the area.

Hole watcher has been assigned and are given clear instructions.

Low voltage electrical tools should be used in the confined space.

Provide of ventilation to replace oxygen in the space and remove fumes or toxic gases.

Limited working time.

Effective communication shall be established between those working inside and

attendants out side.

First aider and emergency vehicle with driver should be available on the site.

Arrangements proper lighting and Access and Egress.

Emergency contact number should be available on the site.

Hard barricading the area and provide proper signage's.
