PAGE 19 2. WASHING General data The product to be washed contains a certain amount of water, whether it is deslimed or not. This water dilutes the dense medium, which fact has to be taken into account when calculating the balance of the dense medium system. ‘The dense medium is not diluted by: Raw coal 0.5 - 10mm with 6 1/2% moisture and industrial minerals and ores Onn with 2% moisture The amount of water in the product diluting the dense medium ‘The diluting water volume Q for coal: a bos @. A, Feeding the product to the washing cyclone a, General data wo methods are used to feed the product and washing medium to the washing cyclones. 1. Product and medium are pumped to the cyclones (see Pigure 11(1) and drawing 1c-52024. 2. Product and medium are fed to the cyclones by gravity (see Figure 11(2). paonucr: 4 . | a see: oyster 25 THe EYELONES « cant eo com | ane Tam. te Aepee Wate eas ty ster 1 renprant w males spslont_—— +] r ay Fiq dewey media Og. if Suiting cyclone. res, dene medtuny primp tok cents pipe , pump eappetty amis: piarip O44 Oq my Jeepact puny 1. Product and medium are together pumped to the washing cyclones General data With this method the heavy medium from the sieve bends, the drainage screens and concentrated mediun from the recovery system flow into a launder or a pipe line, by which this medium is transported to a pump tank. Before reaching the pump tank, the launder or pipe line is divided into two separate parts. In one part the product is added to the medium, medium and product flowing together to a centre-pipe installed in the pump tank. ‘The velocity achieved by the product and the medium in the centre-pipe prevents the lighter parts of the product from remaining afloat at the surface of the liquid in the centre-pipe. The other part of the launder or the pipe line, containing only medium, flows also to the pump tank, the product and the medium are together pumped to the washing cyclones The connection of the launder or pipe line - containing concentrated medium from the recovery system ~ with the main launder is always to be made after at least one link from the drainage screens or sieve bends, so that this medium is always flushed away. ms wa Tig eR EERE PAGE 21 mediyin from sieve bends " wathing ‘aud drainage screens, : product spilt launder oe ah 2 2f pipe He lor pipe tine Usube fo: pump leapacity FIG 12 = General arrangement of installation for x cy mf oduct and medium which are pumped to the washing cyclones pump In the main launder or pipe line a U-tube is installed for s.g. control. b, Feeding of pump tank by launders or pipe lines The pump tank is fed with mediun and product by means of launders or pipe lines, details of which are given below. Details of the launders Slopes Slope of the launders for medium from the sieve bends and drainage screens is 2° for the clean coal side and 6° for the refuse side. Slope of the launders for the concentrated medium from the recovery system is 45°, Slope of the main launder for the total amount of medium or medium with product is 2°. For vertical transport of medium or medium with product no launders are used. In this case pipe lines are applied. Wear To prevent wear the launders are to be tiled. At the transition point between vertical transport (by means of pipes) and horizontal transport (by means of launders) a braking box must always be used. Figure 13 gives an example of this box. For diluted medium normal pipes are used. Bends with a max. standard radius must be applied. Cast iron for bends can be used as well. In pipes for vertical falling flows no bends are to be used. Life time for landers and pipes When life time is important, laundérs must be tiled and basalt-lined pipes must be used. Alr supply to the pump tanks To stir the settled magnetite or ferrosilicon after a stop of the washery, alr Is supplied into the pump tank at the places shown on Sketch CP 2423 A. The minimum required alr pressure = 2.5 kg/cm2 for coal washerles and 3.5 kg/em™ for minerals and ores. The mintmum quantity of air per 1/2" alr valve (1 alr connection) = 2.5 Nm3/min or _150_Nm3/hour where Nn3/h = m3/h of free alr or alr at standard conditions. The minimum quantity of air per pump tank (4 air connections) = 600 Cs After a long stop of the washery and before starting the pump, it is necessary to supply air to a pump tank for about 15 minutes.
