competency 2.1.11. Competency 2.1.11 is to analyze the impact of the urban
context on a range of client systems, including practice implications. The
evaluation of practice assignment on the case of Angel Sanchez is a great example
of analyzing the impact of the urban context on a range of client systems, including
practice implications. In this assignment I was able to work with Angel Sanchez, a
schizophrenic Hispanic male with a language barrier. I was the only one that was
able to help him because I spoke the same language as he did. Witnessing the
struggle that Angel Sanchez faced in StoneCrest Behavioral Treatment Center
displayed the wide range of client systems that suffer from mental illness.
Thankfully I was able to serve him as an interpreter while his social worker and
psychiatrist provided him with the necessary treatment for his recovery and
stability. I learned great deal from this assignment. This assignment taught me
that different client systems have many different needs and it is usually the social
workers responsibility to address those needs and accommodate the client with the
resources needed for them to receive the treatment that they are entitled to
receive. The practice behavior of examining the distinct characteristics of the urban
context and applying the analysis to social work practice was met. This assignment
shows that the social worker examined the characteristics of Angel Sanchez and
concluded that he had a language barrier. Therefore, the social worker had to use
her resources to accommodate the client with the help he needed. This assignment
provided me with better insight of how use different resources in order to provide
better service to the wide diversity of clients suffering with mental illnesses. Overall
the evaluation of practice assignment on the case of Angel Sanchez fulfills
competency 2.1.11 because it displays the actual analysis of the impact of the
urban context on a range of client systems, including practice implications.
Applying competency 2.1.11 will ensure better practice when working with a wide
range of client systems and the implications that may occur during treament.
