Reflection

The populations at risk assignment on the case of Angel Sanchez fits competency
2.1.7. Competency 2.1.7 is to apply knowledge of human behavior and the social
environment. The population at risk assignment on the case of Angel Sanchez is the
perfect example of applying knowledge of human behavior and the social
environment. In this assignment I discussed in detail the case of Angel Sanchez.
Angel Sanchez was a patient at StoneCrest Behavioral Treatment Center. At this
time I was working as an interned at StoneCrest Behavioral Treatment Center. I
chose to research Angels case because I felt like he was the most vulnerable in
comparison to all of the other patients I worked with during the time I worked at this
facility. Angel Sanchez was a 67 year old schizophrenic Hispanic male with a
language barrier. Due to Angels language barrier h was unable to receive the full
psychiatric treatment that he was supposed to receive during his stay at StoneCrest
Behavioral Treatment Center. Being deprived of treatment du to a language a
language barrier was detrimental for Angel Sanchez. Thankfully I was able to be his
interpreter during my time there and he was finally able to receive the care that he
was initially supposed to receive. Angels language barrier caused him a longer
stay at StoneCrest Behavioral Treatment Center. Once he was able to get a better
understanding of what was happening he became more compliant with treatment
and was able to meet his goal of being discharged from the psychiatric hospital. I
learned a great deal of information from this assignment. The research conducted
was about the psychiatric treatment and what types of interventions work best for a
patient like Angel Sanchez. I also researched about language barriers in different
health care settings in order to obtain a better understanding of Angels situation
and also to be able to provide better services to him when working with his social
worker. One of the practice behaviors achieved was the use of conceptual
frameworks to guide the process of assessment, intervention and evaluation. While
doing this assignment I perform research in order to better inform the practice I was
providing for Angel Sanchez. Another practice behavior achieved was the critique
and applied knowledge to understand person in environment. I used Angels case
to inform and compare it to the research conducted. Overall the populations at risk
assignment on the case of Angel Sanchez fulfills competency 2.1.7 because it
displays the actual application of knowledge of human behavior and the social
environment. Applying competency 2.1.7 will ensure that research is conducted
before during and after practice and services are being provided to clients. Also,
research will ensure better services to be provided for clients. The more informed a
social worker is about the case of the patient being treated the better able the
social worker is assist the client with the best interventions and preventions in the
future.
