Classroom Discipline/Management plan
Classroom Management/Discipline Plan
Classroom discipline is the act of providing students with
consistent expectations and rules on how they should behave
themselves in and out of the classroom. The primary purpose of
classroom discipline/management is to provide your students with a
classroom that runs effectively and smoothly, as well as providing
them with the best possible learning environment.
As a teacher, my responsibility when it comes to classroom
disciple is to provide a clear set of rules and expectations, which every
student will follow. Other responsibilities include; treating every
individual in my room with respect, providing fair treatment to all
students, providing a safe and secure classroom, maintaining
consistent rules, and making sure academic learning is being produced
during class time.
Student responsibilities include following the rules and
expectations placed in the classroom, and understanding the
consequences that come with breaking the rules, treating their teacher
and classmates with fairness and respect, allowing their peers to have
the best possible learning environment, and coming to class every day
with a positive attitude and willing to learn what is being taught that
day.
Fred Jones model of classroom discipline aligns closely to mine,
specifically dealing with setting limits on acceptable behavior. Dr.
Jones states that as a teacher you must set firm limits and boundaries
within the first couple of weeks of school. When setting these
boundaries Dr. Jones suggests that you verbalize the rules and
boundaries to the students, show the students acceptable and
unacceptable behavior, and finally reteach and reinforce the rules
through the rest of the school year. I too plan on setting clear limits on
acceptable behavior within the first couple of weeks of school, I believe
this is the most efficient way to get the students to understand the
expectations placed on them and for them to understanding the
acceptable behavior within the classroom.
Another strategy that Dr. Jones suggests, that I plan on using in
may classroom, is arranging the desks in a way that allows the teacher
to move efficiently around the room, which in turn would allow the
teacher to answer any questions, or prevent any disturbances from
happening very quickly. Dr. Jones suggests creating an interior loop
arraignment, this arrangement allows the classroom teacher to Work
the Crowd or easily monitor and interact with students.

In order for classroom management/discipline to be effective the

following need to be included:
1. A clear set of class rules (includes both general and
specific rules)
2. Expectations for both teacher and students
3. Consequences that vary depending on the severity of
the misbehavior (dentitions, meetings with parents,
meetings with principals, ISS, Suspensions)
4. Preferred Activity Time (PAT) (allowing students to
participate in educational learning of their choice for
following rules and expectations, requires the entire
class to be good)
5. Have multiple backup plans for when student refuse to
comply with rules.
6. Bathroom polices, pencil sharping polices, blowing nose
policies ect.
In order to prevent misbehavior from happening in the first place
I plan on creating a general and specific classroom rules and post them
around the classroom. I also plan on teaching, demonstrating, and
then having my student demonstrate the classroom rules. Along with
creating and posting rules, I plan on having the students fill out
learning and interest survey so I will have a better idea of how my
student work and learning. With this knowledge I plan on creating
groups where each students skill set will be highlighted. My hope is
that the students will understand that each member of their group is
need for them to succeed in the classroom. I am hopping that this
technique will a positive classroom community.
The following are five classroom procedures that I will use in my
classroom.
1. Entering and leaving the classroom
2. Bellwork and Exit Tickets
3. Effective note taking skills
4. Getting into and working in groups
5. Absent and make up procedure
As a teacher it is my job to explain each procedure/routine,
demonstrate each procedure/routine, and then have the students
demonstrate each procedure/routine. In doing so, the students will
know what is expected of them, and the classroom will run smoother
and each student will have a better learning environment.
Finally as a teacher it is my duty to display and professional and
ethical demeanor every day. I plan on doing this by dressing
professional everyday I come to work. Having fun, challenging, and
engaging lessons for my students each day. I will also have a positive
attitude when I work with my students, and never let my mood effect
my students learning.

In order to develop trust with my students I will be upfront about

what I expect out of them, while allowing them to create expectations
they expect me to uphold. I will be fair in my grading, punishment,
and recognition in order to develop trust with my students. In order to
develop trust with my students families I will keep them informed on
what we are learning and working on in the classroom by providing
consistent newsletters, I will also call the parents throughout the year
to keep them informed on how their student is preforming in the class.
In order to develop trust with my colleagues I will be involved in the
school activities, only establish positive relationships with fellow
teachers and principals.
