To whom it may concern,

My name is Courtney Braithwaite and I am a new graduate from Humber
Colleges Practical Nursing program. I intend on writing my licensing exam
from the College of Nurses of Ontario on May 20th 2015.
I am writing you in regards to the nursing position that was posted on
your website. I was very interested and upon reading the role description and
requirements I was thoroughly excited that it fit my education and skill set.
My first clinical practicum was in Complex Continuing Care at Brampton
Civic Hospital. This role was able to teach me many clinical skills such as
tracheal suctioning, enteral feeding, caring for diabetic clients, stroke clients
and brain injured clients as well as pressure ulcers and wound care. This role
taught me the importance of caring for clients who could no longer care for
themselves and how important it is to support them and treat them with
dignity.
My second clinical practicum was in Reactivation (Slow-stream Rehab) at
Brampton Civic Hospital. This role taught me a lot about engaging clients in
their own care and health teaching. I enjoyed being able to see the progress
that my clients make and it was rewarding to be able to see them progress to
the point where they could return home to their loved ones.
My third clinical practicum was in the Emergency Department at
Brampton Civic Hospital. I was exposed to working at the Urgent Care Clinic
dealing with many lacerations, fractures and wounds, Medical Assessment
Unit, working with patients who were admitted for a 24-48 hr period until
their condition stabilized and working in the Ambulatory Treatment Centre,
where we dealt with mostly CTAS 2, 3 and 4 patients.
I thoroughly enjoyed all of my clinical experience thus far and I know that
I want to work within a hospital. I also have learnt through my placements
that I enjoy acute care and the fast pace that it provides. My first two
placements were very rewarding and labour intensive, but I enjoyed getting
to know my clients and seeing progress within their plan of care. That being
said, once I was exposed to the excitement and rapid pace of nursing in the
emergency department- I was hooked! I truly love how the whole system of
the emergency department works.

My goal is to work in an Emergency department however I realize that as

a new graduate, this is a difficult area to get in to. Therefore, I have
determined that if I cannot be in the emergency department, directly after
obtaining my license than I would like a role that can provide me with further
experience working with acute patients. This is why I would love a position
on a surgical floor.
In addition to the above experiences, I also hold a Bachelors of Science
from the University of Guelph and plenty of work experience within
healthcare and more. I have worked for Central West CCAC, Wise Elephant
Family Health Team, the Ethics and Diversity department at William Osler
Health Centre and am currently still working for regional government within
the Region of Peel as a customer service representative.
I believe that I have many competencies and capabilities that will allow
me to be successful within your environment. I have thoroughly developed
my assessment abilities and become skilled at monitoring for changing
conditions in my clients. I have developed skills to accurately obtain and
interpret medical information from my patients with regards to their health
and emotions. I feel one of my strengths is my ability to communicate well
with my patients and their families as well as members of the
interprofessional team. In all, I believe that I will be able to bring a positive
attitude and energy to your hospital.
I would welcome the opportunity to meet and interview with you. Please
accept the enclosed resume.
Sincerely,
Courtney Braithwaite
