IVJS PE AND ACTIVITIES

Sports moto: T.E.A.M= Together, Everyone, Achieves, More

The school has been able to offer many sporting opportunities. This will not
just increase the physical activity that your child takes part in but also benefit
their health and positive movement of skill development. There is something for
every child to enjoy at lunchtime and afterschool. We are very fortunate to
have a range of activities. These include: football, netball, tennis and other
recreational games to keep the children active and entertained. The teachers,
learning mentors and supervisors all support the children by being positive role
models, you can see them interacting, refereeing and ensuring the children
understand and the rules applied, this creates a very positive environment for
them to enjoy in their lunchtimes as much as possible
This page will keep you updated with news and fixtures so that you and your
children can enjoy the many different activities we have to offer.

News Updates
Football news
The boys and Niamh have been able to play some fantastic games and their
teamwork has been brilliant in every game that they have played. They have not
won a match as of yet but with the hard work they have already put into
practising at lunchtimes and after school, a win is surely not far off.
A notable game that the Lower School boys have had the chance to enjoy, was
the Reading match. The boys were able to play football matches against other
schools in the morning and tour the stadium in the afternoon. They all made Mr
Hawkes and the school proud, showing massive amounts of respect and
sportsmanship to the other teams. Well done Sean, Harvey, Jimmy, Kai, Alfie,
Mahmoud and Harry. Alfie, needs a particular mention as he received MAN OF
THE MATCH due to the kindness that he showed to the other teams.

Netball: Iver vs Stoke Poges

For their first match the girls did extremely well. The score was 7-2 to Stoke
Poges but the girls did not stop trying. Niamh made some lovely set ups as
centre during this game to really get the game started. Ella B scored some
brilliant goals. Lois defended and got into space really well. Holly dodged her
player to receive the ball accurately. Amys footwork was brilliant and she was
able to pass the ballon quickly to her fellow team mates. Bronte played the
game with a lot of confidence, driving intospace to run out her player. And
lastly Nikita who received GIRL OF THE GAME, due to her determination to
get the ball, moving quickly into a new space to help her team keep possession
of the ball at all times. For their first match they all did brilliantly, they are
progressing well in their netball knowledge and gained a lot of experience from
this game. Its onwards and upwards from here for the girls as they are a very
strong team with a lot of potential.

Netball: Marish Vs Iver

Marish might have won 10-5, but the girls played spectacularly. Amy kick
started the game off with some good centre passes, whilst Niamh was able to
defend the ball with a lot of determination, which also helped her to retrieve
the ball from the opposition. Nikita scored some brilliant goals which helped us
on the way to our 5 goal score. Lois was able to pass the ball into a space which
really helped the team to keep possession of the ball, by doing this she was also
able to gain control of the game. Emily C dodge her players and was able to get
into space to retrieve the ball well. Ella W has showed loads of progression in
her netball skills, this really showed in the game especially when it came to
driving for the ball, even after she got injured after a few minutes out, she
brushed herself off and was ready to play again. Holly was a reserve and
demonstrated amazing commitment for the team as she stepped up ready to go,
in any position asked of her when her team mate got injured. Lastly Ella B, this
player on the upper school team showed all the sporting qualities asked of her
during this match and because of this she was awarded GIRL OF THE GAME.
Even though we may not have won this game. As a coach I am very proud of
them because they all showed amazing sportsmanship and respect to the other
team, even though we did not win. All the girls, not just the girls mentioned
above should be commended for how much progress they have made over the
year already, just by practising hard at lunchtimes and after school.

Houses (14/07/2014)

Houses have now be re-introduced to the school, with captains that will help
lead their houses to victory. These are; Adlington, McIlroy, Ennis and Hamilton.
Children can win points for their houses not just through competing at events
on sport day, but through each term in PE lessons. Being awarded for brilliant
work and upholding many different sporting values which we have injected into
PE, such as, teamwork, honesty, respect and fairness
It has been really exciting to see this starting to take off and the children
getting into the spirit of wanting to achieve points for their own house. Most
commendable is for the students who took up the challenge of running for
house captains in their own campaign, creating posters and speaking out in
assembly to show the rest of the school why they should be picked. The
captains have now been chosen, where two from upper and two from lower
school represent each house.

Gifted and Talented/ External clubs

At Iver Village Junior School we are aware that a number of students play
sport for the school but also externally, competing at competitions,
representing a local club or even themselves in a number of disciplines. As a
school we are always very keen to hear of the pupils successes and
achievements, both in and out of school. If you want to let us know what your
child has been involved in, simply write us a short descriptive email of the
activity, the student involved and the achievement to the following email:
(email address)
Both pupils and parents are able to send information to this address or even
send us a letter in to read out in assembly so the whole school is able to
celebrate in the acheievments of your son/ daughter. As a department we see
this as being a simple and effective way of knowing what the children are
achieving outside of school, finding out which children participate in which activities that
we might not already now of.

Sports Leaders
If you want to join an afterschool fixture we are asking for a small donation of
2 for every sport you join. This is to help with the purchase of new equipment
and maintenance. So your child can have the best that we can offer them.

Fixtures

To help create better school links with other schools in the area, we are hoping
to travel to those venues but we cant do that without your help. If your child is
on a club and is representing the school we are asking that parents help to
transport children, if you can help please let the sport coaches or reception
know so we can add you to the parent tree.

Sport Leaders
As a school we want to encourage children to develop their leadership skills, which will give
your child a sense of responsibility and develop their confidence and self-esteem. As a
department we have created sport leadership roles, where your child can lead lunchtime
activities and also help with other sporting events i.e. sports day and inter-house games.

Venue

We want all children to feel included and create a warm friendly environment at
the school which has already been apparent with the older children interacting
and looking out for pupils younger than themselves, which has been a joy to
watch since starting at the school in September. So to develop this further, we
feel sports leadership is important way for students to improve their
communication skills whilst working well as a team helping them to socialise with

different children they would not normally talk to on the playground, creating
new bonds of friendship.

House captains
Leading up to the main event, that is sports day, house captains will gain more
responsibility helping not just with lunchtime activities, but help to create and
teach chants to their fellow houses and banners to help cheer their fellow team
mates on, so they can really experience an amazing atmosphere on the day.
