Objectives

Students will be complete an activity using Francis Scott Keys poem that would
become the national anthem of the United States. Students will watch a video
about the Battle of New Orleans and discuss the Treaty of Ghent. Students will
analyze their previous predictions of the outcome of the war from Lesson 3, and
compare it to how it was truly settled.

Rationale

This lesson will finalize the outcome of the War of 1812 and discuss the issues
that many had with its unnecessary violence. Students will analyze the war with
modern wars, such as Iraq, Vietnam, and Syria, as a link to the past with present
day history.

a. Directions: Each student will receive a card with one answer and one
question.

b. Each Student must find their matching partner and create a line to show
the order of answers.
c. Students will read their cards one by one, going down the line once they
believe they have completed the proper chain of answers.
Example:
Student #1: I have James Madison, Who has one of the reasons
the war of 1812 began?
Student #2: I have British impressment of American soldiers. Who
has the name of the treaty that ended the War of 1812?
Student #3: I have the Treaty of Ghent. Who has the nickname for
the battleship U.S.S. Constitution?
