AVN E-Learning Project
Project Name:

AVN E-Learning

Project Manager:

Simon Wilkowsky

Project Tracking Number:

Date: 29 Oct 14

B2-1030-A-45

Project Purpose:
The purpose of the project is to design and develop competency-based interactive training
modules (learning objects) for Australian Vocational Network (AVN). The training modules are
required to accredit new employees and to re-accredit existing employees in deep-sea oil
exploration.
Project Objectives:
Develop interactive training modules on the following subjects:
Basic Oil Rig Safety
Emergency Procedures
Ocean Bed Strata
Project Success Criteria:
Product Standards:
Learning modules/objects must be:
W3C Priority-1 Web Content Accessible;
SCORM compliant, self-contained, and delivered through a learning management
system;
Visually attractive, motivating to use, and organized for ease of navigation;
Designed in a work-based context that immerses learners in realistic, problem-based
environments;
Designed for use in problem solving within the context;
Aggregated into smaller learning objects to cover single learning objectives;
Repurposable, content-rich, and include a self-test at the end of each module.
The learning approach must include:
Engagement in an educational environment that is active and constructive;
Learning setting and tasks for meaningful communication among learners and
teachers;
Engagement of learners in active processing and not merely knowledge acquisition;
Resources that are visually attractive, motivating to use, and logically organized;
Media/interactions that are authentic and cater to real-life deep-sea oil exploration.
Product functionality must include:
Non-proprietary software;
Content revisable in HTML or MS Word to allow future revisions;
Suggested pathway through the material for optimum learning experience;
Multiple pathways through the material to support user choice;

Case Study and Summary of Assumptions:
The case study is Developing Learning Objects for Adult Learners. I made an assumption
that the client would review and approve products incrementally during the three-week
development period. I also assumed that the company would approve the hire of an ISD
consultant to assist Trevor Adams with more advanced instructional design. I included
Charles Geoff as an official paid e-learning advisor to the project as well. I also assumed
that the team will work over weekends for three-weeks.

required to accredit new employees and to re-accredit existing employees in deep-sea oil
exploration.

Statement of Project Scope:

Third Eye Media will analyze, design, develop, and implement three deep sea exploration
modules in which learners will participate in authentic activities. A proof of concept will be
developed which will comprise 40% of the final product at which time if approved, Third Eye will
be allowed to complete the project. Each module of the final product will entail 1 hour of
interactive SCORM compliant training. Third Eye Media will not develop video for this project.
Simple self-test are to be developed to allow learners to assess their learning.

Overview of Deliverables:
The following interactive training modules will be delivered:
Basic Oil Rig Safety
Emergency Procedures
Ocean Bed Strata

Work Breakdown Structure

for
AVN E-Learning Project

Work Breakdown Structure:

Below is the work breakdown structure (WBS) for AVN E-Learning. The team responsible for
AVN E-Learning has identified five different phases into which they might cluster all of their
various project deliverables: Need & Feasibility, Project Plan, Specifications, Deliverables, and
Pilot and Evaluation. Within each of these clusters are the broad categories of both interim and
final deliverables for completion of the project. See Figure 1. Work Breakdown Structure:
