Customs Inspector Career Research Essay

The job I chose to pursue is Immigration and Customs Inspector. I am
interested in this because I want to be a part of the effort to stop human
trafficking. My personality survey results matched this career well. I have a
strong interest in the Criminal Justice area and this career fits well with that
too.
The job is to investigate and inspect people, common carriers, goods,
and merchandise arriving in or departing from the United States. They also
detect violations of immigration and customs laws and regulations. The

so they are not wanted or possess fake identification. Other tasks involve
interviewing people to determine eligibility for admission into the United
States. Some of the most common work activities are interacting with
computers, documenting/ recording information, identifying objects, actions
and events, and monitor processes, materials, or surroundings.
In order to be successful in this career some important skills are active
listening, speaking, critical thinking, reading comprehension, judgement and
decision making. Important abilities include oral expression, oral
comprehension, near vision, inductive reasoning and problem sensitivity.
The job also requires personnel to handle stressful situations calmly.
Personnel have to communicate well with co-workers and the community.
They also have to be able to see things that others cannot.
