Q1) Describe briefly the various constituents of a coagulation sedimentation plant.
Q2) Name the chemicals which are used for coagulation. Discuss their comparative merits and demerits.
Q3) Differentiate between slow sand and rapid sand filters with reference to (i) rate of filtration, (ii) filter media
of sand,(iii) period of cleaning , and (iv) loss head.
Q4) What is meant by disinfection in treating public water supply? What are the chemicals used as disinfectants
and what are their comparative merits and demerits?
Q5)Explain the briefly (I) Break point chlorination,(ii) super chlorination
Q6) A water with low alkalinity of 10 mg/L as CaCO3 with the alum-lime coagulation. Alum dosage is 100 mg/
L. Determine the lime dosage needed to react with alum?
Q7) What is the amount of natural alkalinity required for coagulation of raw water with dosage of (i)20.0
mg/L of ferric chloride solution, (ii) 20 mg/L ferric sulphate, and (iii) 25 mg/L of Ferrous sulphate.
