INTRODUCTION
Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) evolved from the "Day of
Unity" held in October 1981. The intent was to connect advocates
across the nation who were working to end violence against women and
their children.

INTRODUCTION
In 2013, Texas reported about 185,453 family violence incidents and
13,486 of those occurred in the Dallas County.
Genesis Womens Shelter has been opening their doors to people who are
in desperate need since 1985.
In 2013, The Genesis Womens Shelter
provided services in Spanish and in
English to a total of 11,758 clients.
Victims are provided clothing,
counseling, food and even education
Housing more than 650 women and
children annually

BACKGROUND
In 2013, DPD Family Violence Unit reported 13,007 family violence calls
- 1,215 aggravated assaults,
- 23 murders,
- 10,812 reported offenses,
- 91 sexual assault offenses,
- 180 violations of protective orders,
- 5,782 arrests
1-in-3 women have experienced intimate partner violence in their lifetime.
In 2013 - 2,972 homeless or in shelters
- 24% children,
14% of adult population listed domestic violence as their reason for

Majority of abusive men were either abused as children or witnessed their
mothers being abused.

Running back to life....life in color, is a project that would start on
October 1, 2015 and end October 1, 2016. Raise awareness in our
generation on what domestic violence is and how it can affect them
personally and the ones around them.
We are hoping to make enough profit to help at least 40 to 57 more
people this year.

Phase 1
- Inform the community by focusing on Dallas high school students
- 12 high schools
Then what?
- Advertise our 5k run
- Take a pledge against domestic violence
- Fun, colorful and exciting

- Total number of students enrolled 18,865
- Number of students to inform 16,000
- Get a count per classroom
Measurement 2 Taking a pledge
- Based on the number of tickets sold
- Tickets sold for $25 each
- Estimating that 15% to 25% of students will participate
- Profit between $60,000 to $100,000
