Re: Crystal McMillons Letter of Recommendation for the MSW Program
Dear Admissions Committee,
It is with great pleasure to write a letter of recommendation on behalf of Ms. Crystal McMillon,
a BSW student in the School of Social Work at Wayne State University. Ms. McMillon is in the
process of applying for the MSW program at the Wayne State University and had asked me to
write a letter of reference from me to accompany her application. I agreed to write one without
any reservations.
I am currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at Wayne State University
where Ms. McMillon is a BSW student. I have known her since August of 2013 when she was
enrolled in my SW 3510 Human Behavior in the Social Environment class during fall semester
of 2013, and SW 3020 Social Work Practice Methods II class during winter semester of 2014. I
have had many opportunities to observe and evaluate her academic performance and potential for
a career in social work in my class. I found her to be an outstanding student who completed all of
her given assignments and tasks. As indicated in her resume, she has managed to make the
Deans List since fall semester of 2013, which is a clear evidence of her academic excellence.
Her writing in particular is a major strength, and I have been thoroughly impressed with her
ability to write and conceptualize. She also made significant contributions to both of my classes
by providing insights, which enhanced the quality of my classes. Based on my observation, I
would rate her oral and written skills as outstanding.
As indicated in Ms. McMillons resume, she has had numerous work experiences in various
organizations and agencies, such as the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency
and Park Providence Hospital. She also has volunteer and community service experiences in
other agencies, such as Spaulding for Children and Adopt a Family. These experiences provided
her with keen insights on social problems that are pervasive in our society, which I firmly believe
prepared her well for the social work profession.
Ms. McMillons academic and career goals are well-aligned with the values and goals of the
MSW program at Wayne State University. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that she will
continue to strive for excellence in your program and beyond. I believe that she will make a
significant contribution to the social work, and the MSW program is a critical first step for Ms.

McMillon to realizing her academic and career goals. I realize that the MSW admissions
committee at Wayne State University aims to recruit students who demonstrate strong potential
for the social work profession, and I strongly urge you to accept her application for the MSW
program.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or concerns about Ms. McMillon. I
can be reached by email at fl4684@wayne.edu or by phone at 310-990-4658. Thank you very
much for your consideration.
Sincerely,

Jun Sung Hong, PhD
