Day 1
(LogoSculpture.ppt) Examples of sculptures based on logos.
Prompt: your company (represented by your letter logo design) now wants
a sculpture of the logo to sit outside your office as a more eye catching
from of advertisement. Using a medium or combination of mediums plan,
design, and execute a 2 foot sculptural version of your logo.
Creating a small maquette (a small model or study in three dimensions for
either a sculptural or an architectural project) out of clay or wire will help
to visualize the dimensions of the work and understand its form.
Students should create at least 4 different thumbnail sketches (2inch by
2inch) to explore different angles of their planned piece (front, back, side,
three quarters view). Color may be used in thumbnails if necessary.

Modifications/Notes

Day 2
Discuss armature building and different materials appropriateness in
relation to design. Ex. A design that involved thin scrolling letters is not
likely to be made out of cardboard, which does not hold a shape well when
cut thin, but rather wire, which holds its form.
Students will finish building their maquette and sketches and begin
working on the armature for their piece.
Day 3
Students will finish their armatures.
If finished, students will begin construction of their sculpture.

Letter Logo Sculpture

Day 4-6
Students will continue working on their sculpture
Students using polymer clay will be required to leave their piece for firing
on the evening of Day 6. Pieces that are not ready to be fired will be
rendered incomplete.
Day 7-8
Students will work on painting and finishing process for their piece.
Day 9
Students piece will be finished and on display with their finished letter logo
design piece at the beginning of class for critique.
Class critique: We will discuss the effectiveness of the sculptural version in
relation to the two dimensional design. Students will be required to discuss
the elements and principles used in relation to the designs success.

Evaluation Criteria
Peer Critique: Student will be given a sheet with 4 Peer Critique forms.
Students will randomly be given 3 peers to critique. Each student will fill
out this form for their 3 given artworks and then one for their own piece.
When the grade is determined, students will receive each of their peers
reviews of their pieces along with the teachers evaluation.
