Values are deeply rooted held beliefs that are usually traditionally based, family

and religious teachings, and also can emerge from our own personal life experiences.
Values are a monolithic part of society that varies between cultures and individuals. They
are essential in all areas of life because they influence who we are as well as create the
person we are evolving to be. I have a myriad of values that I cherish: family, happiness,
intimate relationships, education, integrity, spirituality, and individual choice.
A time in my life when my values and someone elses conflicted would be the
topic of religion and spirituality. Some people place high emphasis on religion and others
consider themselves spiritual. I stand on the spiritual side. Spirituality is more of an open
self-practice and religion is based on a God-like practice. Values conflict because religion
is more of a institutionalized practice that is deeply rooted in tradition, where as
spirituality is more individual based through the development of inner self. Dealing with
a conflict of values can be a difficult issue to handle. People may not agree with the
subject being disputed but may also disagree with a resolution, therefore youre left to
agree to disagree. When I agree to disagree I keep in mind that we were all born different
with our own set of beliefs which sets us apart individually. To deal with my personal
conflict of interest I found a common ground with the individual. Resulting in the issue
that whether one values a specific religion or has faith in a higher power both value a
spiritual dimension of life that cant be seen or touched. The nature of the conflict as well
deals with a judgmental mentally. People who practice a religion tend to have a set beliefs
and values that are followed that keep people confined to a specific community and the
fact that spiritual views has a different set of open-minded views it cause conflict of
interest.
