Description of artifact and how the artifact meets the standard:
Every day the students sing the song Who Let the Letters Out. This song starts with the lyrics,
who let the a out followed by the /a/ sound. The song repeats with the sound for all of the letters.
This helps the student learn their letter sounds in a meaningful and accessible way for every
student.
Reflection on artifact (what went right, what went wrong, how to make better):
This song is immensely popular with the students and from when we started singing in the winter the
students have all made a lot of growth in their knowledge of letter sounds. While the students are
singing the song they also do the visual phonics gesture for the letter sound so they are connecting
the sound with a movement. This helps the students remember the letter sounds and helps
incorporate some movement into our school day.
