Growth of Grass with Varying Amounts of Water
Introduction
In this experiment, I was testing the growth of grass to determine if one patch of grass
would grow faster than the other if you gave them different amounts of water. My hypothesis is if
I give container #1 two tablespoons of water and container #2 four tablespoons of water, then
container #2 will grow faster. I believe that more water will make the grass grow faster. I arrived
at my hypothesis because I know that plants grow with a lot of water. Therefore, more water will
make it grow faster. I will be giving container #1 two tablespoons of water and container #2 four
tablespoons of water. I also know that I will get the same amount of dirt of each container (1/2
cup) and will plant each seed at the surface of the dirt, and sprinkle some a little on top of them.
I also know that grass needs water and sunlight to survive.
Methods
During this experiment, I watered the grass every single night (container one got two
tablespoons of water and container two got four tablespoons of water). I also measured both
containers' grass growth after I watered it. To build this experiment, I used grass seeds, two
equal sized containers, water, ruler (centimeters), and sunlight. My independent variable is the
sunlight, and my dependent variable is the grass growth. My constants are the size of the
containers every day, and the amount of water I give each container of grass, and my control is
the growth in grass. I collected quantitative data. I measured the grass growth in centimeters
every day.
Results

Conclusion

Container #1 started growing first, and continued to rapidly grow, but towards the end it
started to slow down a but due to lack of watering. Container #2 was slow to start growing. At
the beginning it didn't grow a lot because of too much watering, so the dirt was watery mud. But
after day seven, it started to make drastic changes and grow very quickly. My data contradicted
my hypothesis because container #2 did not grow taller than container #1 even though it grew
very quickly. Therefore, my hypothesis was not correct. Some faults were that I did not water
every single day due to forgetting, and there were some days there were cloudy. Further testing
might include repeating the experiment and correcting my faults to ensure daily watering and
measuring.
