1st year teacher mentorship with Amy Shaver

My one year of mentorship with Amy Shaver has been very
beneficial. At first I was worried that because I teach preschool and
she teaches kindergarten that I wouldnt be able to help me as much.
That wasnt true at all. When I had a preschool specific question I
could usually turn to Kelli Daly, but Amy was amazing at helping me
through the communication and parent side of teaching. We talked a
lot about a student that I have who will be transitioning to
kindergarten next year and it was really helpful to have a kindergarten
veteran to talk to about the transition. The parent is worried about
how her son with do in kindergarten and how the teachers will
accommodate her sons special needs. Amy gave me some great ideas
that she would possibly implicate for him and I was able to talk to the
parent about those accommodations. It helped put her mind at ease
and I think she is a little better prepared for him to be transitioning
into kindergarten.
