National Objective

Students will choose from a range of materials and methods of

traditional and contemporary artistic practices to plan works of art and
design.

State Objectives

Students will create an original design that communicated the theme

of identity.

Students will identify and use positive and negative space in their
design.

Art Production
Day 1
(LetterLogo.ppt) Examples of logos that use letters as their basis.
Relying heavily on using positive and negative space students will combine
at least 4 elements or principles (one being space) to create their own
personal Letter Logo. Students may use one or more of their initials in
their design and may combine other imagery if desired.
The project medium is based on the winner of the Elements and Principles
Pictionary winners choice. The choice will be made prior to beginning
sketches.
Students should create at least 10 different thumbnail sketches (2inch by
2inch) to explore different ideas. Color may be used in thumbnails if
necessary.
Collage
Students will collage magazine, tissue paper, fabric, construction paper,
and/or scrapbooking paper to create their logo. To emphasize the use of
negative and positive space students can cut a mat for the positive or
negative space to glue overtop blocking out that space from the collage
design. (2 Days)
Watercolor
Students will use making fluid, rubber cement, masking tape, crayons,
and/or wax to block out either the positive or negative space to their
design. They will then add watercolor to the piece to bring out their
design. Masking can be layered to create more detailed designs if desired.
