Rationale/Reflection

InTASC/NAEYC Standard:
STANDARD 7. EARLY CHILDHOOD FIELD EXPERIENCES
Field experiences and clinical practice are planned and sequenced so that the candidates develop
the knowledge, skills and professional dispositions necessary to promote the development and
learning of young children across the entire developmental period of early childhood- in at least
two of the three early childhood age groups (birth-age 3, 3 through 5, 5 through 8 years) and in
the variety of settings that offer early education ( early school grades, child care centers and
homes, Head Start programs). (NAEYC, 2010)

Brief Description of Evidence:

As part of my time at Ivy Tech Community College I have spent many hours in a variety of
different settings and classrooms from infants and toddlers, to preschool, to school age children for many
different field experience opportunities. I have spent a lot of time in different elementary schools as well
as daycares and preschools. I have also had many field experiences in and outside of these classrooms
and facilities that I will be able to use as future references as well as ideas and different learning
experiences. These field experiences have been as vast as observing the children to hand washing to
different learning domains.

Analysis of What I Learned:

Through participating in these field experiences I have gained many knowledgeable and useful
materials, activities, lesson plans, curriculums, and experience that I can use in the future. These real life
experiences have taught me much more than I could have ever imagined and I will forever be grateful for
them because without them I would not have gained the hands on experience that I did. Some of the
mentors that I have had experience with have also taught me many useful things that I will be able to use
in my own classroom. One of my mentors really had an influence on me and helped grow my love for
Vygotskys theory that Children learn through play and to provide them with developmentally
appropriate materials that will keep their mind working and provide them with new and fun learning
experiences.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on

the InTASC/NAEYC Standard:
Through all of these experiences that I have participated in I feel that my competency of knowing
about and upholding ethical standards and other professional guidelines comes through. These field
experiences have helped me in many different ways to support young children and their families in a
professional manner. I now feel competent on demonstrating knowledgeable skills and professional
dispositions in a variety of settings and reflecting critical perspectives from a variety of different sources
to the children and their families as well as conducting myself as a member of the early childhood
profession.
