Description of Lesson: By developing skills to seek concepts once the ground

is toned and once a few marks are made, students will create a work of art that will
consist of utilizing the additive and reductive technique to create a creative
concept.

Lesson Title: Additive and Reductive (Lesson 3 of Drawing with Fire


Unit)

explore a personality meaningful theme, idea, or concept.

selecting, curating, and presenting artwork for a specific exhibit or event.

order to select and defend a plausible critical analysis.

Materials/Resources:

2 pieces of drawing paper


Vine charcoal
Compressed charcoal
Eraser
Paper towels
Spray fixative

Prerequisites (Prior Knowledge):

Social: Students should be able to work quietly in a group setting. Students should
be able to focus and create their own independent piece of work.
Cognitive: Students should be able to understand that they need to develop a
concept by using the additive and reductive technique.
Physical: Students should be able to use all materials correctly and safely.

Emotional: Students should be able to work separately on their own work without
copying or getting offended by others.

Procedures:
Students will use the first sheet of paper to follow the instructor as a practice
attempt.
Instructor will provide a demonstration on how to apply to charcoal and then
use an eraser to take a way parts.
Once the demonstration is over, students will be released to create their own
work of art.
Accommodations:

For the students who miss the demonstration, the instructor will provide a mini
demonstration. For students who finish early, they will be encouraged to further
work their concept and take it to the next level. Students who may work slower than
intended will be encouraged to work promptly. If needed, an extension will be added
if needed for slower working students. For students who have a hard time paying
attention or struggle with participation, the instructor will suggest that students
focus on their own work. Excessive chatter or distractions will not be tolerated.
