Table Ball
Activity Name: Inspirational Hands
Source: http://www.recreationtherapy.com/tx/txsmsoc.htm
Size of group: 1-10
Equipment needed: Large punch balloon with elastic off.
Objective: Do not let the ball touch the floor
Activity Description:
1. Introduce the activity. An individual patient will be chosen and handed a balloon.
2. Participants will sit in a circle around 3-4 tables .
3. The client with the balloon will then toss it to another client and thus around the circle.
4. Each participant must say or show their number each time the ball is touched by them.
5.The ball will be passed around until it hits the table and counted on how many times it was passed by
each participant.
6. Usually done as a warm up activity.
Leadership Considerations:
1. This activity is shown to improve socialization, laughter, and hand eye coordination. Directions and
examples by the TRS can show clients how to properly blow up a balloon and remove the elastic. For
those with breathing difficulties a pump will be provided.
2. For those who cannot stand, they can be placed in the middle between the tables in assisting with
passing the balloon to other participants in the circle.
3. Adaptations can be made for any type of impairment or disability because a simple tap of a balloon
with an assistive object or other body part can send it flying to hands do not necessarily need to be used.
4. Help participants include everyone in the activity as well as assisting with counting when they get
stuck.
