Welcome to Year 2
Spring Term Second Half
R.E.
This half term we will be remembering The Easter Story. We will
particularly focus on The Last Supper and how it plays an important
part in our mass today. We will be working hard to prepare our own
version of The Easter Story, which we will perform for the school and
our families.
English
In English we will be continuing to learn about the structure of a
story. We will also learn about how to compose a factfile, this will be
done firstly by researching information and then using this
information to formulate our own factfiles.
Maths
We will begin by learning about fractions and understanding what the
numerator and denominator represents in a fraction. We will then
look at doubling and halving. Next we will learn about division, making
sure we understand its relationship to multiplication. We will also
learn about data collection, forming our own tally charts and graphs
and answering questions about the information they represent.
Computing
This term we will be learning about algorithms and how they are used
to make computer programs. We will then start to find out how to
create our own computer programs.
We will also use the internet to help us research the rainforest.
Art & DT
As our topic is the rainforest we will create artwork based on
rainforest animals. We will investigate the colours and symmetry of
some rainforest animals and will use different techniques to illustrate
this.
P.E.
This half term we are focusing on gymnastics. We will be learning
about travelling and balancing as well as using our wall bars!
Please remember to remove earrings on Wednesdays, Thursdays and
Fridays for swimming, multi-skills and P.E. as necessary.

How you can help your child

Please read with your child
everyday. Wherever possible try to
support your childs comprehension
skills by asking questions about what
they have read. Words such as
Who?, Why?, When? and How? are
always good starting points for
these questions.
To help your child with their maths
encourage them to count in twos,
fives and tens. Looking at word
problems and identifying the key
words in the question which tell
them whether the question is asking
them to add, subtract, multiply or
divide will also help them in their
maths lessons this term.
