PreparingtoConnect
 BeforeyoucanconnecttothePM800seriespowermeter,followthesesteps:
 SelecttheMAINTmenu,andthenSETUP
 Enteryourpassword.Thedefaultpasswordis0000
 SelecttheCOMMSmenu
 SettheprotocoltoMB.RTU,thisisthedefaultsettingforModbusRTU
 SetthepowermeterwithauniqueModbusserialaddress(ADDR),thedefaultaddressis1
 Setthebaudrate(BAUD),thedefaultsettingis9600
 SettheparitytoNONE,thedefaultsettingisEVEN
 Pressuntilaskedtosaveyourchanges

CableSpecification
Connectthepowermetersusing2wireRS485cable.AnRS232toRS485serialconverterwillbe
requiredtoconnectthistotheNorthdevice.ThisisavailabletopurchasefromNorth,orderpart
numberMISC/485CONV.
ThetotallengthofRS485cablecanbeupto1km.
Ifrequired,settheRS485serialconverterto10bitdataformat(onestartbit,eightdatabits,noparity
bit,andonestopbit).

UsingtheDriver
TheNorthModbusdriverisavailabletouseontheCommander,IntegratorandObSysproduct
platforms.OneachoftheseNorthdevices,youcanusethedrivertostartaninterface.Oncestarted,
youwillneedtosetupthedriverbeforeitcancommunicatewiththeexternalsystem.

StartinganInterface
 Tostartaninterfacewiththedriver,followthesesteps:
 StartEngineeringyourNorthdeviceusingObSys
 NavigatetoConfiguration,andthenInterfaces
 Tocheckthedriverisinstalled,navigatetoInstalledDriversandlocateModbus
 NavigatebacktoInterfacesandfindablankinterfaceinthelist.EnterthedrivernameModbus
tostart
 NavigatebacktothetoplevelofyourNorthdevice,thenselectScanandRefresh
 Thedriversetupobject(Mc),labelledModbusModule,shouldnowbeavailable

 Tosetupthedriver,followthesesteps:
 NavigatetotheModbusModuleobject(Mc).Forexample,ifyoustartedinterface1withthe
driverearlier,thentheobjectreferencewillbeM1
 SettheBaudRateobject(RS.BR)tothebaudrateyouconfiguredtheModbusdeviceswith
earlier.Thedefaultbaudrateforthepowermeteris9600
 SettheByteFormatobject(RS.BF)toN81.Yousetthepowermetersparityearlier.APM810is

ObjectSpecifications
Whenyoustartaninterfacewiththedriver,thentheobjectsbelowwillappear.Forexample,ifyou
startedinterface1,thentheobjectreferenceswillbeM1andS1.
Theobjectslistedwithineachoftheobjectspecificationsinthischapterarearrangedinatreelike
structure.Navigatebetweenthecontainertypeobjectstobuildupthefullobjectreference.
Forexample,theModbusSystem(S1)containsAddress1(A1),whichcontainsaninputregisterobject
(B2.B).Therefore,theobjectreferencewillbeS1.A1.B2.B.
TheobjectreferencesarerelativetotheNorthdevicewheretheinterfacestarted,soyoumayneedto
prefixthemwiththeroutetothatdevice.
Forexample,toaccesstheobjectS1.DI4.SonaCommanderplatformfromyourObSysPC,theobject
referencewouldbeIP.CDIP.S1.DI41.S.WhereIPistheIPNetworkobjectandCDIPisthealiasofthe
Commander.

InterfaceTopLevelObjects
