Assessment(s) of the Objectives:
Lesson Objective(s)
1. Students will create
an effective design
within a landscape. This
landscape will contain
five hills and a sky, and
the designs must be
zentangle patterns
2. Students will
correctly use watercolor
to color their landscape.
Each hill will be a
different color.

Assessment(s) of the
Objective(s)
Students will be able to
create a landscape using
overlapping (learned in a
previous lesson) and fill
in areas with effective,
zentangle patterns
Students will display the
proper technique of
using watercolors to
create a neat and clean
landscape

Use of Formative
Assessment
This lesson assesses
what the students
have previously
learned about
layering to create
depth, and the
effective use of
water coloring. The
teacher will provide
feedback to students
as they complete
their art.

Accommodations: students will be shown a stepby-step instruction paper if needed. Other

accommodations will be managed when introduced

Materials: Watercolor paper, practice paper, watercolors, brushes, small buckets of

water, pencils, black markers

Procedures: First students will be given a reminder on how to create depth by

overlapping objects. Then they will follow the teacher step by step to create a landscape
on their practice paper with their pencils. They will first draw their first hill towards the
bottom of the page, and then layer the final four behind each other to create the
landscape. In this landscape there should be five hills. They will then be instructed to sit
their materials down and continue observing the teachers example. They will be shown
how to add the zentangles within their hills. After observing what they should do they will
then in each hill, use zentangle designs to add pattern to the negative spaces. Once
complete to the standard desired by the teacher, the students will be given watercolor
paper to redraw their design with pencil, then trace with black marker. Then the students
will use watercolor to add hue to each hill. Finally the work dries, and the students have
created an abstract/zintangle landscape.
Activity Analysis:

The teachers gives an introduction and example of the lesson to provide the
students with an idea of what they are creating
Students create their work on practice paper to confirm they retain preciously
learned skills, and to practice making the most effective and well-crafted
landscape.
Students will replicate their landscape following the same steps learned in the
beginning, and use watercolor to make each hill a different color.
