Conference Program Guide

2014-2015
Wayne-Westland Community Schools
Dr. Michele Harmala, Superintendent

On the following pages is a list of video conference programs that align with the Wayne-
Westland Community Schools curriculum.

While choosing a video conference program, consider your students prior knowledge, and if
this will be an introductory lesson, a summative lesson, or somewhere in between. Prepare
your students by discussing video and audio during the connection. The presenter will be able
to see and hear them. The video may be pixelated or jerky. There will be a slight delay in the
audio, so it is important to pause before speaking. Discuss behaviors you would like to see
before, during, and after the video conference with students.

After reviewing the recommended programs, you may request up to one video conference per
marking period, for a total of 4 per school year.

To request a video conference, you must submit a response to the following survey. Click the
hyperlink or copy and paste into an internet browser: http://tinyurl.com/WWCSDvideo

You will receive email notifications when your request has been submitted and then again
when its approved.

For any additional information, please email Jillian Johnson at johnsonjr@wwcs.k12.mi.us.

Economics: The Business of Baseball National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum $150
In today's game, the business of baseball is readily apparent. Player salaries, ticket prices, league
structure, team ownership, and the players' union all figure into the game's "corporate structure." Yet,
baseball has been a business in its organization, inner-workings, and capitalist goals since the 19th

change in this country. In this unit, students will explore economic laws and concepts associated with the
national pastime.

probability. This highly interactive session will engage participants in practicing the probability of a
series of activities.

Circling the Bases: Baseball & Geometry National Baseball Hall of Fame $150
One of the great features of baseball stadiums and fields is that no two are alike - anymore. Maybe there's
a big hill in centerfield, as in Houston's Minute Maid Park, or maybe there's a 37-foot tall "Green Monster"
forming Boston's left field wall. Outfielders need to know the dimensions and special characteristics of
the fields in which they play to help them decide how to field the ball - do they play the fly ball off the wall
or try to jump and catch it for an out? Make an informed decision in a dugout full of shapes, area,
perimeter, diameter, Pythagorean theorems and other aspects of geometry while learning about some of
the "angles" of playing baseball. Will you hit a single, double, triple or home run? It depends on the
hitter's math skills in this interactive game where circling the bases means more than just hitting a home
run.
