Money cannot buy happiness

We live in an era of speed and technology, in which we barely find enough time to see the
change of the seasons. In todays free-market society, in which money make the world go
round, everything seems to have a price, people being increasingly valued according to
the amount of cash they earn. Yet, the simple things are those that truly matter in life and
cater for the spiritual demands of our existence.
To begin with, people have recently overlooked moneys main function to fulfill the basic
human urgency of purchasing everything they need for living. Moreover, making it seems
their ultimate goal, as everybody proves to only long to obtain material possessions by
any means, thus ignoring the real assets in life: friendship, self-contentment and love.
Contrary to what some people say, that money is the only measurement of happiness in
anyones life, I strongly doubt it. To my mind, a lifetime spent in solitude and valued only
by how much money one managed to put aside or the countless luxurious acquisitions
purchased pale into insignificance when compared to other simple, but priceless aspects
of life. It is the feeling of being respected and loved by those you care for that weighs
more than any riches in the world.
In conclusion, many people in the modern society have forgotten that making money is
just a way of achieving a state of well-being and comfort, while life is so much more: it is
about cherishing your own ideals and visions and struggling to reach them.
