GOALS PACKAGE

Steps to Achievement & Evidence of Success

Medium-term
1.To improve
knowledge and
skills working
with disengaged
students

2. To expand my
teaching areas
to include
mathematics
and French
immersion

Long-term
1. To teach an
outdoor
environmental
education
program, either
a single credit
course or multicredit program

I will focus on identifying root causes such as

home life and student interests
I will research and attend professional
development on engaging students through
pedagogy
I will structure courses to be authentic and heavily
investigation based
I will research and expose students to a range of
post-secondary options and high school programs
(i.e. OYAP)
I will investigate the pre-requisites for high school
mathematics and French immersion AQ courses.
I will participate in the mathematics AQ course
within 2 years and the French immersion course
within 5 years.
I will seek to gain experience in both these areas
through occasional and long-term occasional
teaching

I will learn about what outdoor clubs or outdoor

education programs exist in my school/board
I will become involved with these programs to
learn about how to run one successfully, or
propose an outdoor and environmental education
club if none exists
I will learn about creating interdisciplinary courses
and multi-credit programs and propose a
course/program if one does not exists

Benefits

2. To build links

I will learn about existing community involvement

Students will experience an environment that

recognizes their experiences and interests,
leading to more student-centered learning
and finding purpose in their education
Students will be exposed to pedagogies that
may better suit their learning style
Students will have fewer class disruptions
because of greater student engagement

I will be able to use my knowledge of science

to create a more engaging, authentic
environment for students in mathematics
courses
Students will experience cross-curricular
learning
I will be able to bring my passion for teaching
science and mathematics to French
immersion students
Students will have the opportunity to learn
environmental conservation in real world
settings and become advocates in their
school and community
Students will have the opportunity to learn in
an alternative environment and with
alternate pedagogy
Students will be able to challenge
themselves physically and mentally, and
integrate life skills with academics.
I will strengthen the link between school and
the community
Students will learn the importance of

between schools
and community

in the school and student involvement in the

community
I will become involved with these existing
opportunities and promote student involvement
I will talk to students, faculty, and community to
identify areas of need and interest for community
interactions, within and outside of classes.
Success will be incorporating community
interactions into classes and student life

contributing to their community

Students will be engaged by real-life
applications of what they are learning
Students will learn responsibility to peers and
community
