High School Student

A high school student who is looking forward to get rid of school life and start
her higher education. She always dreams to study an interior design program
as it is the only place where her creativity would be appreciated. That was
me eight years ago.
Life Decision
However, unexpectedly my plans were changed as I realized that I needed to
move to a different city if I want to be an interior designer. It was the first
serious decision that I had to make. I spent a week in studying the outcomes
of my decision and I had two options. First, I has to move to another city
where I had to be independent in everything. Adding to that, my mother was
not available to wake me up in the morning, and the made was not there
anymore to help. Also, I had to manage my finance situation because my
father would not be there if I needed extra money. But I would reach my
dream by the end.

Whereas, If I decided to study another program in a

college near to my hometown, nothing would change. The people around

me would stay the same and provide the help whenever I needed.
My Education Field
I have decided to not take risk of being autonomous. I choose to study in a
college that is close to my home, and the only possibility that I had is Higher
Colleges of Technology-Fujairah Womens College.

At that time, HCT/FWC

had three levels which were Diploma, Higher Diploma and Bachelor. I have

been categorized as a Bachelor level student. The only bachelor program

was Bachelor of Education. I was not interested of all these details because
my dream as an interior designer would not be achieved, so nothing else
made a difference.

Bachelor of Education
I got more involved with this new program specially with courses that focus
on children, such as child development, students with special needs, and
teaching practice course definitely as we practically interacted with students
in schools. This program clarified my thoughts about children and students.
It answered different questions that derived in my mind such as why do
children act and behave in a specific way?

Why are some of them

aggressive and the others so quiet? Why are some of them so smart and
other less clever? How could a students background affect his attitude in
the classroom?
creativity?

How could parents and teachers support the childrens

How could we as tutors help our little student to overcome

different challenges that they might have at home? I have learnt that every
child has a different experience, consequently we as tutors should treat them
differently.

Moreover, I have learnt that students have different learning

styles and we should introduce different learning styles activities during the
lesson, so we meet all the styles. Being in different classes also raised my
awareness towards the diversity of intelligences for different learners.

In

terms of technology, nowadays education is all about it. The schools that I

attended with a good tech support had better educational system and less
students misbehaving.

Technology engage the students in their learning

process because the students are curious and they have the desire to
explore those devices.
After Graduation
After I have graduated, I realized a dramatic development in my cognitive
level.

I felt very appreciated of being in such a program.

Bachelor of

education did not only growth my study and career life. It also facilitated my
personal skills in treating my children.

In addition, am not any more

confused or apprehension about my children behaviors as I have learnt that

children are spontaneous and parents rule is to guide them.
Current Situation
Currently, I am a tertiary education teacher. Teaching in higher education
level is not the same as in school level.

Being a teacher in HCT/FWC

enhances my teaching skills further. The community is dissimilar than the

school community. It is a multicultural community where I deal with people
coming from different cultural.

Consequently, I need to understand their

cultural so I can deal with them appropriately. In addition, the central focus
of HCT is technology so am exposed to up-to-date technology devices and
tools. I suppose to catch up with the rapid changes and update my teaching
methods based on technology variations.

Am not interacting with little angels any more. Am dealing with teens and
adult sometimes. One thing that annoy me in the classroom is that some
students dont show any importance in learning. They dont do the work, nor
submit the assignment, and they scape classes.

Some of them obviously

show that they are at college to have friendships and have social life;
education is not priority anymore.
It is a great challenge for me as a teacher to interact with students whom
come to college to have entertaining with friends.

I desired to study the

reasons behind this problem. There are diverse explanations but one main
cause that I consider to affects students interest to study is our lifestyles. In
UAE, the government provide us with everything that we need for free. That
sounds effect the techniques that the parents treat their children as they
offer them with everything that they need with no efforts.

Consequently,

why do the students bother themselves about their learning, if their families
are always there to provide them help. That reminds me of myself when I
decided to give up my dream of being an interior designer. I preferred to
stay close to my family and to have all the privileges that we usually receive
from them.
