ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I would like to thank my maths teachers Mrs. Charu

and Mrs.renu bhatia for guiding me and helping me
at each step.
I would also like to thank my parents and sister for
their constant help and support.

INTRODUCTION

SURACE AREAS
Surface area is the measure of how much exposed area asolid
has, expressed in square units. mathematical calculation of
surface areas is based on methods of infinitesimal calculus
and involves partial derivations and double integration.
Hence, the term surface arearefers to a total area of the
exposed surfaceof a three dimentional solid

3
VOLUMES
Volume of any solid ,liquid is how much three
dimentional space it occupies often quantified
numerically.volumes of some simple shapes can be
easily calculated using some simple arithmetic
formulas

NEED FOR FINDING SURFACE
AREAS AND VOLUMES
In almost every sphere of our daily life we use surface areas
and volumes. From designing to construction of buildings to
finding amount of a substance required for making a
particular thing.
In construction work finding surface areas and volumes helps
a lot in planning(how much to buy) and costs(how much to
charge) in connection to things such as wallboards , shingles
and paint
Volumes can be used to find how many goods can be put in a
lorry or a godown. At the same time it helps us know how
much liquid can come in a tank.

CASE STUDY
My project revolves around role played by
surface areas and volumes in construction
work.
A businessman has just brought a plot of
land .he wants to find the approximate
amountof money he would be requiring to
build the house.

6
THINGS TO BE BUILT
• The house has the following components to be
constructed
• 4 living rooms
• 4 bathrooms
• 1 dining room
• 1 kitchen
• 1 swimming pool
• Area where grass can be plotted and cost of planting
the grass

7
Formulas used
1. Surface area of cuboid :2(lb+bh+lh)
2. Surface area of cube : 6(side)(side)
3. Surface area ofcylinder (curved) (2)22/7 (r)(r)(h)
4. Surface area of cylinder (total):(2)22/7 (r)(r+h)
5. Volume of cuboid : lbh
6. Volume of cylinder : 22/7(r)(r)(h)
7. Volume ofcube : A^3
