Subject: PSHE (Boastful and Proud)
Today I am taking over the PSHE lesson. It was also one of my observation lessons. In
the lesson, the students were assigned to do some acting in their group. The beginning of the
lesson was good but it turned a bit messy during the activities part (which the students were a bit
out of my control). However, this lesson still manages to end successfully on time. I think this
lesson was average although I included lots technologies in the lesson.
I did felt a bit nervous at the beginning of the lesson but I settled down after a while. I felt
very happy when I saw the students react and respond well to my instruction and cues. However,
I was also worried when I saw the activity part was messy. That moment, I can felt my heart
freeze. I tried my best to calm myself down and continue on the lesson. I also felt glad that I did
introduce the cue to the class, so it actually saved me by gaining the students attention.
Overall the lesson still manages to finish according to the plan although it was not that
smooth in some part. I realized that my introduction was a bit lag because I was nervous as there
was someone observing me. However, I managed to calm myself down afterward as I kept going
on in the lesson. I am glad that I chosen a suitable tuning in song at the beginning of the lesson.
This actually helped me to gain my students' attention at the first place. The students also
responded well when I ask them questions. It was just like what I have learnt before, a clear and
good tuning in can hooks the students attention.
Having said that, the activities part in the lesson was turned out a bit messy. During the
acting part, I saw clearly that some of the students (passive learners) were not doing the task
although it was a group work. I realized that it was because I failed to take passive learners into
the consideration when I planning the activity. Somehow I am glad that I did give the students
concrete example, so that they know what they should do. If not, I guess it would be much messy
and might be totally out of my control. This dawn on me that I actually forgot to cater my lesson
activity to the passive learners.
In addition, I realized that learners are the most important factor that leads to the success
and smoothness of the whole lesson. It was also the heart of the learner-center approach. I
realized that although I am hold on to this approach, but sometimes when I am too excited, I
might just forgot to put myself into the students' shoes. And eventually it became I am doing
what I want to do instead of focus on the students' learning process. Besides that, I also found
that the problem might also be the size of the groups. I realized that there were too many students
in one group; therefore some of them were not participate.
After the observation, my supervisor actually suggested me way to improve my lesson.
Through the conversation, I found that my plenary for lesson was still quite weak. I should
practice and improve on my plenary part. Then, I also realized that when I introduce some new
cue, perhaps is a word, I should write it out or project it out. This is to avoid confuse or
misunderstanding towards the cue. I also came to realized that I should move around in the
classroom more often when I am giving out direct instruction.
As a conclusion, I learnt that I should put myself into the students shoes when I am
doing my lesson plan. I also learnt that introduction part is the most important step to gain
students attention. As for my next lesson, I will constantly remind myself to think more from the
students point of view, and not only just about the activity. I will also make sure I do not put too
many people in a group. I will also make sure I work on my plenary part as it is also important. I
will also try to move around in class more frequent.

Subject: IPC (Journey of River)
Yesterday my mentor and I already planned for this lesson. This lesson was normal and
simple. I taught the students about the journey of rivers. It was challenging in terms of searching
and clarifies of information. It was because I do not have the background of geography
knowledge. However, after searching and preparing for the content, I managed to deliver the
lesson to the students. The lesson was good thanks to my mentor. Her explanation was very clear
and funny.
When I heard that I have to teach this lesson, I did felt a bit scared and worried. The
reason was because I do not have geography background to support me. I did felt sad for this;
however, I did not plan to give up here. I am overjoy when this lesson end successfully because
it was my first time successfully carry out IPC lesson by myself. I am glad that my mentor
willing to teach me and help me out on this lesson. I was also exhilarated when I saw that the
message and content of the lesson successfully deliver to the students. Not only that, I actually
felt that I learnt more than I teach in this lesson.
The lesson was end successfully. I am glad that I took the challenge of teaching this
lesson. Through this lesson, once again it deepens my believed in teaching as life-long
learning. I realized that by teaching this lesson, indirectly I am learning geography knowledge
that I did not know before. I found that used animated picture to support the explanation on the
journey of river is an excellent way to carry out this lesson. It was just like what stated by Jean
Piaget, children in concrete operational stage learn better when there is concrete example shown
to them.
Besides that, I also observed that repetition is one of the ways that reinforce knowledge
that have been introduce to the students, especially when introduces specific terms such as
geographical terms. According to the repetition principle we can make our response to a stimulus
becomes stronger by exercise and repetition. This was because we will become more familiar
towards it. I also found that IPC is an interesting subject to be taught, if you have sufficient
geographical knowledge to support your teaching. This was because children are naturally
interested towards the environment. Therefore, if the teacher can explain the terms, formation or
features clearly, students will find this subject interesting.
I realized that if I did not use the animated picture and shows video, the message might
not pass to the students that effective. In addition, if I did not challenge myself to teach this
lesson, I might not learn new knowledge about geography as well. Through my analysis, I found
that teaching IPC is not hard as long as you understand your content. I also realized that I can
actually do more fun activity with IPC lesson.
All by all, I really learnt a lot from this lesson in terms of knowledge and skills. Through
this lesson, I learnt that content knowledge and teaching skills is equally important. If the teacher
did not know his or her subject, it will be hard to teach too. I definitely will take over IPC lesson
again in the future as I find it really interesting. Next time, I will look for more resources to
support in the delivery of the lesson content. Last but not least, I will also make sure there is
practice time for the students so that the knowledge can be reinforced.

Subject: Literacy (Play Script)
This lesson was the continuous of the poem The Highwayman. In this lesson, I taught
2

the students to write a play script based on the poem. I gave the students freedom of choosing
their group. The teaching resources that given in the DLP was not sufficient. Therefore, my
mentor and I we decided to search more information such as the features of a play script. After
that I go through the features of a play script together with the students and write a template for
them. However, many of the students still did not do the play script correctly. Lastly, when we
show a sample example then only the students got it.
At first, I was quite shock that many of the students do not know how to write a play
script (since they have drama class). Anyway, I am glad that I have taken foundation in acting
this subject in my course. For that reason, I know how to write a play script. That made me felt
more comfortable and confidence when I am delivery this lesson. I also breathe assign of relief
when the students finally can understand and know how to do a play script.
The lesson went a bit stuck in between when during the practice time. Most of the
students stuck because they do not really understand how to write a play script. Not only that, it
was surprise that many of them cannot really gave a dialogue to the character although they
understand the story in the poem. I observed that their creativity in thinking somehow had been
limited in somewhere. From another view, it might also be my expectation towards them was a
bit too high.
This situation might be just as what Piaget had stated as well. Children in concrete
operational stage need to see thing in concrete (they need to see sample by their own eyes) and
cannot really do abstract thinking. When I realized this, I quickly look for a sample play script
for them. From there, I noticed the importance of sample work for activities that involved
students creativity.
Besides that, I also saw my mentor help the students by giving them exactly what to
write. In my opinion, it does help for the learners that have difficulty in understood the poem.
However, it might also limit the students creativity for the rest of the students. I found that if
this activity was done in ability grouping if might turn out better as well. If its an ability
grouping, then we can give more appropriate support instead of telling the whole class copy
exactly what my mentor said.
In a nutshell, I learnt that it is important for me to always show concrete example or
sample for the primary school students. I also realized that I should put myself in their shoes, not
to overestimate them. Then, I also realized the importance of choosing right grouping methods
for the activity. For my next lesson, I will make sure I always prepare an example or do a
demonstration for the children. I will also take my activity into consideration when planning for
grouping methods.

Subject: IPC (working wall)
In this lesson, I taught the students to work in a group to do their working wall. This
working wall was about the topic that they have learnt in the previous lesson (The Journey of
River). This time I did as suggested by my mentor, we did the random grouping. Although some
group seems like does not get along at first, but surprisingly their product of the working wall
was done pretty well.
To be honest, this was the most chill and relax lesson I ever had for this subject (IPC).
The lesson went very well and all the students seem enjoy. At the beginning of the activity, I was
a bit worried because I saw some of the students do not get along with each other in the group.

After guiding and giving suggestion to the students, I am happy that they can work with each
other although not with their best friends.
This lesson was end successfully. I realized that the practice part for IPC subject was
mostly done in two ways either is a project or a group work (before this, I always wonder where
is the practice time for students because it seems like just keep on deliver lesson content to the
children). This actually dawn on me that why students find IPC lesson very fun. I observed that
students learnt to work collaboratively with their peers the most during IPC lesson. I found that it
was the nature of this curriculum that shape the fun learning environment as it hold on to active
learning this value. It was just like the principle of IPC. It focuses on personal, academic and
international learning that will prepare children, whenever they may live, for the world of
tomorrow.
Through this lesson, I also found the risk in doing random grouping (students might not
get along with each other). However, I also realized that it was our (teachers) duty to overcome
this problem. Sometimes, students just cannot get along with their ideas, if we adults can solve
this, then students actually can work well with each other. I also realized that it was the reason
that teachers should walk around and guide the students during activity time. Not only facilitate
the students on their understanding but also to overcome their conflict with peers. On the other
hand, if I did not go to solve the childrens problem, they might just end up with not doing the
task.
In conclusion, I learnt that the role of teachers as facilitators are also means to solve
students conflict with their peers. I also learnt that there is also a probability that random
grouping could fail the group work activity. Therefore I must think twice when choosing the
grouping methods. Besides that, I also learn that now I can understand the IPC curriculum better
than before. As for my next plan, I would consider active learning into my lesson plan as I
always did. I will also try to understand my students better, since it might be one of the factors
when doing grouping for the students.

Subject: Literacy (Guided reading)
Today was the first time that I did guided reading with the students. My mentor gave me
the teacher guiding books and ask me take over one group. She did brief me what to do what to
do before this. I took the easier group as it was my first time to do guided reading. I interact with
the students, ask them questions, and go through the story together with them. It was really fun
and this session end successfully.
At first, I am really nervous when I have been assigned to take over one group to do the
guided reading. First, I did not read the story before. Second, I did not do guided reading with
students before. However, I am so delighted that I actually manage to carry out this session
successfully. I am also glad to see students enjoy in the guided reading. It was so pleased to see
all of them participate when I ask them questions.
It was a good lesson. I found that guided reading actually was not hard. Instead, it was
really fun. I am glad that I took the challenge of doing guided reading. I realized that guided
reading was the time that I have to use action to explain some incident in the story. This included
sound, facial expression or body movement. I found that this situation just in line as what I have
learnt about nonverbal communication. As research also shown that, 70% of communications
were done through nonverbal communication. The proof was when I explain the story with
4

action; students were all showing their excitement and paying their attention on me.
Besides that, I also realized the importance of having guided reading as one of the
literacy lessons. This was because the children are more interested towards story than theoretical
stuffs. While teaching the story, we are also indirectly teaching the students new vocabularies,
grammar and comprehension. In addition, through guided reading, I also observed that students
learn to speak out their ideas and practice their speaking, reading, and listening skills. I also
analyze that guided reading actually integrate the four skills in literacy. I find it was really good
as students will learn to transfer the knowledge that they have learnt into practice.
Next, I am glad that I have a course in nonverbal communication and acting before.
Thanks to that, I found that I manage to deliver the story in an attractive and interesting way to
the students. I also realized that if I did not use action to support my explanation, students might
easy lose their attention and misunderstand the story in some part. Not only that, I might not
getting their feedback if I did not ask them questions. This dawn on me that one of the purposes
for questioning the students.
All by all, I learnt that guided reading is very important as part of literacy subject. I also
learnt that nonverbal communication and action are good tools that I can use when explain
something to the students. I also experienced that to check students understanding, the fastest
way is to question them. For my next guided reading session, I will prepare a set of questions
that will engage students in the story and cognitive thinking process. I will also make sure I go
through the story book and teachers guide book first, so that I know what to expect and I can
prepare it.
