Title/Description

The Circulatory System: Blood

Students will be introduced to the new unit (Animals: Structure and Function)
and be given a quick overview of the human systems that will be covered.
Learning Goal: Today, I will understand the components of blood and the different
blood types.

vessels and how blood pressure is measured.
*PowerPoint: Blood Vessels-The components of the vessels walls, compare and
contrast arteries, capillaries, and veins, characteristics of the lymphatic system,
and how to measure blood pressure

*Activity: Measuring the blood pressure of each other using a sphygmomanometer
*Homework: Blood Vessels Worksheet
The Circulatory System: Structure and Function of the Heart
Learning Goal: Today, I will understand the structure of the heart; the flow of
blood, and how a heart beat is produced.

*PowerPoint: Disorders of the Circulatory System-Symptoms, causes, and
treatment of artherosclerosis
*Activity with iPads: Research and complete the Disorders of the Circulatory
System table (in groups)
In groups of 4-5, act out the symptoms on the card in front of the class while the

other groups write down which disorder they think it is and why on their
whiteboards

The Respiratory System: Different Structures, Same Function

Learning Goal: Today, I will understand the different structures that allow gas
exchange to occur, in particular the human respiratory system.
