Discover My Values

Plan of Analysis
Step 1: Gather Information
For these questions, reflect on personal and career values you identified in the chapter or in
CourseMate, using results from the Knowdell Career Values Card Sort.
1. What values did you identify that are important to you for your work and your career?
The values I identified that are most important to me are:

Honesty & Integrity

Practicality
Structure & Predictability
Stability

Personal Safety
Intellectual Status
Precision Work
Security

2. How are your values reflected in your reputation?

In my previous work environments I was known as being reliable, capable, and consistent,
which I believe closely relates to most of my values, some of which are: stability, practicality,
precision work, and intellectual status.
3. What values are important to you, but not well-represented by your current career-related
choices?
I feel like helping society is something that isnt well represented by my current careerrelated choices. Stability is something that I highly value and ultimately that is what led to
my career path instead of helping others.

Step 2: Evaluate the Information

4. What must you do to ensure that your values are consistent with your career goals? For
instance, if your goal is to earn a high salary, you might want to explore careers where earnings
are higher. If creativity is important to you, you will need to identify career fields where you are
able to be creative, and nurture this skill.
I believe Im on track with my choice of career in the medical field regarding my values. If all
goes well, the medical office environment that I will be working in will be one of structure
and integrity.
5. What further information do you need about jobs, career fields, or organizations in order to
assess their compatibility with your values? For example, to explore careers with earnings
comparable to your goals, you must learn about salaries for various jobs in the careers you are
exploring.

Ultimately, I think its going to come down to individual environments of various medical
offices. My previous experience in a Call center setting allowed interaction with many local
business offices and it was very apparent when any of those businesses had internal issues.
6. What further information would be helpful to learn about careers that reflect your values?
(These will information your career exploration in Chapter 5: Explore.)
It would be helpful to learn about any training or licensure requirements, location options,
earnings, and expected contribution, aside from day-to-day tasks.

Step 3: Make Conclusions

7. Following your analysis, list the top five values that you want to focus on in your career.
The top five values I would like to focus on are:
Structure & Predictability
Honesty & Integrity
Security
Stability
Intellectual Status
8. Reflecting on your skills, preferences, and values assessment, consider how these complement
each other. List career fields that interest you at this time and encompass all three areas you
have assessed.
The assessments that I completed made one point very clear, and that is I would be less
likely to be happy in work that involves abstract ideas or concepts. This cements my belief
that I would be a good fit for work in an office setting, but it also showed me options that I
hadnt previously considered. In the even that I am not satisfied in a medical office setting,
other options I would be interested are:

Insurance underwriter
Municipal clerk
Human resource assistant
Dental assistant
