Project One: Student Observations and Admissions

Ashley Acomb
Area of Concern

Needs Assessment

Projects Action Plan

Evaluation

The new student

testing and
observation process
needed to be altered in
order to adequately
assess potential
candidates. Concerns
included: insufficient
time to view
applicants, lack of
consistency and
structure, and lack of
all pertinent
information regarding
each applicant.

11/2014: Met with

primary teachers to
discuss the upcoming
new student
observation and
testing process.
Teachers felt the
current process did
not provide the time
and activities to
accurately assess the
new applicants.

1/2015: Revised the

applicant observation
record form, created
assessment activities,
assigned teachers to
specific duties, and
created a schedule for
new student
observations.

Following the
admissions committee
and new student
testing, teachers
provided feedback on
what worked and
what should be
changed for the
following year. While
the new process
seemed to
successfully address
the areas of concern,
the effectiveness of
the new process will
be evaluated next
school year, as we
must wait to see how
well the new students
adjust to our school.

1/2015: Met with

principal to discuss
current behavior and
emotional issues in
the primary grades.
She feels the current
observation and
testing process is
inadequate in
screening applicants.
1/2015: Met with the
primary grade
teachers and the
principal to identify
the problems with the
current system and
brainstorm ideas to
improve the process.

1/2015: Met with

teachers to go over
new schedule and
observation record
form
1/2015: Facilitated
new student
observations,
conducted admissions
committee meeting,
and received feedback
from colleagues
regarding the new
process.
2/2015: Revised a
schedule, teacher
duties, and activities
for the second round
of new student
observations
2/2015: Facilitated the
second round of new
student observations,
and conducted the
admissions committee
meeting.
