Workshops
On Saturday, we will have the privilege of participating in three workshops and/or
activities. Each person will choose from the following menu of workshop choices:
Missionaries
Elder Empey and Elder Pyper
Are you apprehensious about sharing the gospel with your friends and others? Do
you feel that missionary work is difficult and complicated? Are you looking for
different ways to share your beliefs? If so, this is the workshop for you! We will be
discussing ways to Break the Mold with missionary work while still implementing
principles found in Preach My Gospel: A Guide to Missionary Work. You will learn
how to simply, and casually, share your beliefs in a nonthreatening way! Come
prepared to participate in spiritual roleplays that will simulate instances in which
you can invite others to come unto Christ!
Mastery Marking
Mel Voorheis
The participants in this workshop will mark key scriptures in Book of Mormons (or
is it copies of the Book of Mormon?) according to the instructions found in the
packet that will be provided. This is in order to help you or someone who is
interested in the Book of Mormon learn more about and get a better
understanding of the book; it will transform the experience of reading the Book of
Mormon from a daunting task to a more directed, spiritual learning experience.
Allegory and Allusion: Reading the Scriptures as Literature
Xan Stepp, Cornell PhD Student in Medieval Studies
We frequently emphasize the inspired nature of the standard works, and in so
doing we fail to remember that it was men putting pen to ink, often writing
directly to his contemporaries, and thus every work of scripture has context as
well as content. In this session we will briefly discuss techniques and approaches
that can enhance our scripture reading by reading these texts as literary works
and by placing them in a context. We will talk about methods of reading the
scriptures, literary techniques, and methods to interrogate texts which can lead to
a richer understanding of the scriptures.
Finding our Spirituality and Individuality in the World
Joe B. Wirthlin Jr., Utica New York Mission President
The presentation and discussion will be centered on points of spirituality and how
we can maintain our individuality in the world today.

Gospel Notions of Kingship and Our Mortal Life Purpose

Ryan Cole, Cornell PhD Student in Organizational Behavior
We will discuss how the gospel of Jesus Christ defines the institution of Kingship
(as opposed to modern conceptualizations of it), and then we will
practically apply
the Gospel meaning of Kingship to understanding our mortal life purpose as
Latter-day Saints. Discussion topics will include understanding the difference
between ruling and reigning, the nature of nobility, the roles of King/Queen vs
Priest/Priestess, and rites of enthronement.
The Game of Life-Are you ready?
Marci Mahana
How to endure the physical rigors of life. Focus will be placed on physical and
emotional health, as well as how the Lord can help overcome life's obstacles and
challenges.
A Super Sweet Workshop
Brother Baker

Additional Parking Information

Below is a screenshot of a map from
Cornells Map website
. As mentioned
previously, parking at Cornell is somewhat lacking.
For Anabel Taylor, first try to park in the parking lot directly west of the building.
There will hopefully be empty spaces. Make sure to check that you are parking in a
Monday-Friday until 5:00pm spot. These are free parking on weekends. You are
also able to park in the parking garage or the lot next to Hoy Field as well.
For the Big Red Barn, where the dance will be held, there is very limited parking at
the Big Red Barn. Otherwise, try the parking garage or the parking lot next to Hoy
Field.

Once again, if you have any questions or get lost, feel free to call one of the people
listed in the Frequently Asked Questions and Contacts section and we will help
you out!
