Strengths of Resource:
The entire program is all visual so non-English
speaking students can still be successful in the
math program.
The program uses interactive, visual animation to
convey math concepts and develop deep math
understanding.
Students initially encounter visual puzzles free of
language or symbols. Once they master the
visual representation, language and symbols are
gradually integrated into the puzzles.
Kids can work at their own pace and the teacher
can monitor their progress within the program.

Information About
Resource
The instructional
software program is a
research-based, visual
approach to teaching and
learning math. ST Math
enables teachers to
reach all students at their
level, and provides
students with the
opportunity to be
successful learners.
Limitations of Resource:
Classrooms need to be able to have enough
computers for students to access the program.
In order to purchase this program, a school
district must buy for two grade levels and can just
buy for individual classes.

According to the website, their teaching materials have won two Oscars, an Emmy and more than 20 honors
from the Association of Educational Publishers, including two Golden Lamp Awards, the industry's highest
honor. Scientific surveys demonstrate that our programs help students learn respect for differences and
strengthen teacher practice.
Methods for Adapting Each Resource Based on Differentiation of Language and Literacy Levels:
The lessons plans that are provided on the site are very detailed and align to the Common Core Standards.
Teachers will have to go through whatever lesson plan they choice to use and adapt it based on the needs of
their students.

Resource
Limitations of Resource:
There may be an assumption made by students that generalizes that all children in a particular country are
just like the child they interacted with online.
Not all cultures may be represented in this program that reflects students in your own class. Students
countries who dont use this site may feel that they are not as important as the countries that they may pick
from.
Methods for Adapting Each Resource Based on Differentiation of Language and Literacy Levels:
This site can be used with younger grades because they dont need to know how to read because the site is
narrating. Students that know how to read dont need to worry about navigating the site because its kid
friendly. Kids who are ELL may need extra support using this site. ELL teachers could take some of the
stories that are used on line and translate them into their students native tongue if possible. ELL students
should also listen to the stories read in English so they can hear what it sounds like.

There are a variety multimedia formats that are
available, such as a photo gallery, themed

Strategies for Implementation and Evaluation of Each Resource:
Students can work collaboratively with their peers on researching and representing the region/country that
they learned about. Students can share their findings with their peers.
Biases and Stereotypes of Resource:
Based on the information that is presented students may make assumptions that everyone in the region or
country shares a common culture. (Myth)
Methods for Adapting Each Resource Based on Differentiation of Language and Literacy Levels:
When working in groups, teachers can make the groups heterogeneous in ability levels. Every student will
bring something different to the table.
Teachers can also modify reading materials based on students reading abilities.

Limitations of Resource:
When looking at the multicultural and diversity
resources, there isnt a variety of cultures that are
represented.
When searching for lesson plans its only sorted
by grade and content area. It doesnt seem that
you can search for specific subjects within the
site.
There isnt a variety of different cultural backgrounds included in the lesson plans and activities. Teachers
may not be able to find specific cultures that they can address and expose their students to within the
classroom.
Methods for Adapting Each Resource Based on Differentiation of Language and Literacy Levels:
No methods are needed in order for educators to adapt this resource because this site is predominantly
used for educators to continue their own professional development. The only modifications that would be
needed are to the lesson plans. Teachers would need to make adjustments based on the needed and
abilities of their own students.

Limitations of Resource:

I cant really find limitation of this resource
because it focuses on exposing kids to current

classroom.
Teachers may need to pre-teach some content prior to having kids read articles in the magazine so they can
better understand what they are reading.
This magazine can be used in small groups or whole class discussions.
Biases and Stereotypes of Resource:
Like with any print material, this magazine may be written in one perspective and may not provide a variety
of points of views from different cultural backgrounds.
Methods for Adapting Each Resource Based on Differentiation of Language and Literacy Levels:
Since this magazine is all informational text, teachers may need to pre-teach some content knowledge prior
to reading the article(s), and vocabulary from articles may need to be pre-taught as well so students can

important language-arts
skills. In the pages of
Scope, students will be
exposed to narrative
nonfiction, informational
texts, read-aloud dramas,
debates, original fiction,

Limitations of Resource:
When looking at the sneak peek plan for the
magazine for the year, it only shows one article
that focuses on current events. So it seems that
there is a variety of current events that are
incorporated within the magazine.
There is a subscription fee.
13
Teachers can review the plan of articles they will be receiving and plan units / instruction based on some of
the content that students will be exposed to.
Teachers may need to teach some background content knowledge when reading certain text. Students may
not have the content knowledge in order to fully understand the articles they are reading.
Biases and Stereotypes of Resource:
Even though some of the magazine issues may focus on global issues / current events, the articles may just
focus on one perspective or point of view rather than a variety of perspectives which can cause certain
biases on cultural groups.
Methods for Adapting Each Resource Based on Differentiation of Language and Literacy Levels:
This site provide an audio version of major stories as well as higher and lower versions of performance tasks
and acitivity sheets that support diverse learning styles.
Teachers can project the magazines on a Smart Board because you can also access a PDF version of the
article. Teachers can model different skills such as text annotating.

Students can read books in their native tongue if they know how to read in their native tongue, so even

There is a limitation as to the languages that are offered in the leveled book translations. Translations are

Methods for Adapting Each Resource Based on Differentiation of Language and Literacy Levels:
Teachers would use their students reading levels when picking which books they will print and use. If
teachers arent able to print books, students can still access the books online.
Teachers would have to modify the reading lesson plans that come with the level books based on the
abilities of their students.
When using informational text, background knowledge may be need prior to reading the text so students

Limitations of Resource:
There is a subscription fee if educators want to

Once students move out of letter ID letter sounds

seem that this site focuses on fluency. It seems
to focus on showing kids how to sound out words
but not how to read fluently.
No biases because this site not only supports pre-readers but also supports ELL students who struggle with
reading (phonics).

This particular company only has books that are only translated into Spanish. So there is a limitation as to

Methods for Adapting Each Resource Based on Differentiation of Language and Literacy Levels:
Teachers can differentiate the books by pre-teaching vocabulary by making it kinesthetic. During the read
aloud have the kids act out the vocabulary. This will not only expose students to rich vocabulary but make
them internalize the meaning of the words and help better understand the text.
