Usability Test

Test Plan
Scope: To test the instructions given to create borders and shading within a word document
Purpose: To evaluate the borders and shading instructions. To test whether or not the writing
instructions make sense. To assess problems within the usability test.
Equipment: A computer with a set of the instructions saved on it. A keyboard, a mouse and
Microsoft Word.
Participants: Any Microsoft Word user.
Scenarios: Instructions contain two tasks creating borders and shading.
Metrics (Background question): Participants will be asked questions pertaining how easy the
instructions were to navigate.
Roles: Participants will navigate through the instructions while we observe them.
Usability Report
The first participant said, While the boarders and shading tab was open I could not scroll
through the instructions as the new Microsoft word document wanted me to finish with the
boarders and shading menu before doing anything else. They said the instructions were very
clear but did not demonstrate anything.
The second participant said there were no difficulties present when going through the
instructions. The images to them got in the way of the reader obtaining information.
The third participant said that there were no difficulties with using the instructions. He told us
that the instructions we very clear. They recommended that we add some type of introductory
statement.
