Topic outline:

Literacy: We will be writing an explanation text about

how plants grow as part of our non-fiction writing. We
will also be writing adventure stories about Eco-Warriors
who will help Bowling Park to Go Green and recycle.
Mathematics: In maths we will be using the four
operations (+ - x) to complete calculations and to solve
problems. We will also be measuring plants and calculating
the perimeter as part of our Green Fingers topic.
Science: Through our topic we will be learning about the
life cycle of a plant and how seeds travel. We will spend
lots of time outside planting, investigating and watching
nature at work!

Phonics and Reading:

Your child will be sent a reading book and reading diary which they
need to bring to school every day! When reading you can ask your
child questions about the setting, the characters and the plot of
the story, checking their understanding.
Phonics and spelling is taught daily and they learn a variety of
spelling patterns to apply to their writing. Children are
encouraged to have a go at sounding out new words to help them
to spell them correctly. They can also use dictionaries and
thesauruses to extend their vocabulary.
