LESSON REFLECTION (4a)

Name: __Ashlyn Hudson____________________________ Date: __January 31, 2014_______

This form provides the structure for a critically important phase in the observation
process the act of reflection (4a). It should either be submitted in writing within
two days following the observed lesson or you may schedule an appointment to
discuss it with your evaluator. The information on this form will contribute to your
overall evaluation.
1. In general, how successful was the lesson? Did the students learn what you
intended for them to learn? How do you know?
I felt that overall the lesson was successful. The students understood what a fact
family was and were able to grasp the concept of the lesson. I was able to quickly
assess which students understood when they revealed the answer they had written
on their white board.
2. Please provide samples of student work. What do they reveal about the students
levels of engagement and understanding? Do they suggest modifications in how you
might teach this lesson?
The student work shows that the students understood the lesson. If I were to teach
this lesson again, I might leave more room to work with students 1:1.
3. Comment on your classroom procedures, student conduct, and your use of
physical space. To what extent did these contribute to student learning?
The students did get a little louder than usual during math centers. For the most
part, students were on tasking and doing what I asked of them. I walked around the
room to view student work and to check for understanding. I did this to make sure
students understood the concept of the lesson.
4. Did you depart from your plan? If so, how and why?
Yes. I originally was going to stay with one group during centers, but I could tell that
one group was struggling and needed some help.

5. Comment on different aspects of your instructional delivery (e.g. activities,

grouping of students, materials, and resources). To what extent were they effective?
I felt that having the students write their answer on the white boards was very
effective. I could quickly see who understood and who did not. If I taught this lesson

again, I would probably group the students differently or have the students at the
roll a fact family center work with a partner.
6. If you had an opportunity to teach this lesson again to the same group of
students, what would you do differently?
If I taught this lesson again, I probably would not have the students fill out the
practice 11.2. I would probably just do the worksheet together on the white board.
Also, I would probably do another example for each center.
