International Role

Myanmar began its first international political role


in decades last January as host of Southeast Asia's
regional bloc.
The country hosted foreign ministers from the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
for an informal meeting in the ancient capital
Bagan - the first major gathering of the group
under Myanmar's debut year-long stewardship.

Philippine-Myanmar Relations

Burma and the Philippines are both members of


theAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN)
Formal bilateral and diplomatic relations of both
countries established in September 1956.
The Philippines was one of the Asian countries most
critical of Burmas military junta prior to its moves
toward democracy in 2011
Burma and the Philippines strengthen their ties
particularly in business and economy
The Philippines now supports the lifting of western
sanctions against Burma.
