In the Spotlight

Walter Elias Disney

This month In The Spotlight
showcases the man himself,
Walter Elias Disney. Walt Disney was born on December 5,
1901 in Hermosa, Illinois as
one of 5 children. He lived
most of his early life in Marceline, MO. At the age of 16, Walt
dropped out of high school to
join the army. He was rejected
because of his age, so he
joined the Red Cross and he
drove an ambulance in France.
In 1919, when Walt returned
from France, he started to pursue a career as a newspaper
artist. His brother Roy helped him get his first job at an Art
Studio in Kansas City. Walt then worked at the Kansas City
Film Ad Company where he made commercials based on
cutout animation. It was during this time that Walt began
experimenting with a camera and hand-drawn animation
cels. From here Walt started his first company Laugh-OGram. Walt was a dreamer, as we all know and didnt have
much interest in the financial end of running his own company and in 1923, Laugh-O-Gram declared bankruptcy.
Soon after Walt and his brother Roy moved to Hollywood
and along with Ube Iwerks, whom Walt had worked with at
his first job, formed the Disney Brothers Studio. This was
where Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was created and lost. After
losing the rights to Oswald, Walts mind went to work again
and Mickey Mouse was born. Mickey first appeared in Plane
Crazy and The Gallopin Goucho, both were silent films and
never found an audience. When sound made its way into
the movies, Walt created Steamboat Willie and using his
own voice as Mickey Mouse, a star was born and as they say
the rest is history.

MyMagic+ Corner
Adding the Memory Maker PhotoPass
package to your reservation The price
of the Memory Maker was just increased to
$169. This is still a savings of $30 and a great
bargain if you like to buy the Disney PhotoPass Photographer pictures.
What most guests dont know, is that if you are traveling with multiple
families, only one family needs to purchase the Memory Maker if you
are all linked as Friends and Family on My Disney Experience. The
Memory Maker is linked to your MagicBands and with the tap of your
band the pictures will appear in your My Disney Experience account.
You can actually see the pictures within minutes of it being taken.
Dont forget videos from the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Tower of
Terror are now added as well. Even though Disney says you can purchase the Memory Maker at least 3 days prior to arrival at the discounted price, we suggest at least 5 days to make sure that you dont
miss out on those first few pictures. There is a delay from day of purchase to when it actually links to your account. The price after arrival
in Disney is $199.

Mouse Notes - February 2015

In October, Geri and Jennifer had the opportunity to visit Aulani on a Travel Agent
Appreciation Program. Over the next few
months you will read what they discovered at Aulani, Disneys Resort and Spa on
Oahu.

Aulani - Day 3
Today was a full day of learning about Aulani. We
started our morning at Makahiki for a breakfast
with a few characters. Aulani Resort is where Mickey, Minnie and the gang take their vacation so you
may see them wondering around. Aulani has something to offer everyone starting with Aunties Beach
House - a place for children ages 3-12 to hang out,
play games, watch movies, and really have some
fun. Teens will have fun with their own activities
and a personal spa just for ages 13-17. Adults can
enjoy adult only pools and the Laniwai spa, fitness
room and classes offered throughout the day. We
were able to tour a 2 and 3 bedroom Villa for those
of you that travel with extended families or those
that just want a little more space. We ended our
evening with the Starlit Hui.
This entertaining show is
outdoors on the lawn were
you sit on grass mats and
enjoy storytelling with Uncle
and Hawaiian Dancers.
This picture above was taken from the restaurant
Ama Ama as we sat eating dinner. Ama Ama is an
open air restaurant that overlooks the cove. Aloha!
