Campus Building Descriptions

BYU-Idaho Center
The BYU-Idaho Center operates like a large Latter-day Saint church building. The auditorium functions as a chapel
and the Gym services students like a cultural hall. A lobby area allows students to meet and study. The total size is
360,300 square feet.
BYU-I Center Auditorium - The auditorium is similar in design to the Churchs Conference Center in Salt Lake City,
Utah. Both rooms are built so that everyone in the audience has an unobstructed view of the stage. Compared to
the Salt Lake City Conference Center which seats 21,000, the BYU-Idaho Center is three rows shorter and does not
fan out as wide for a capacity of 15,000.
BYU-I Center Gymnasium - The BYU-Idaho Center houses ten sports courts. Each court is fully functional with
boundary lines so ten different games of basketball, volleyball, futsal (indoor soccer), or tennis could be going on
simultaneously. Plastic netting rolls down from the ceiling to separate spaces. Each court has its own speaker system
and scoreboard. The gym can also be used as a large banquet hall, which with tables set up, would seat 5,000.

1888, Jacob Spori. On Nov. 29, 2000 this building accidentally caught fire while demolition crews were attempting to
pull the building down. The exterior is similar to the original, though the interior has been better equipped for the
students needs. Some of the original stonework appears in the new construction and the third floor holds a
wooden pediment from the front of the original building and is approximately at the same elevation and location as
it was in the old building. It currently holds the Communication and Art Departments. Downstairs, a state-of-the-art
facility provides a unique learning experience for broadcast students. The student newspaper, the Scroll, and news
station, Digital Scroll have offices inside the Spori building as well. On August 22, 2003, President Thomas S.
Monson and Elder Henry B. Eyring dedicated the newly designed building.
Eliza R. Snow Performing Arts Center - The old gymnasium burned down on this spot before the Snow Building
replaced it. The Music Department is located here. Practice rooms are equipped with either a piano or an organ. A
recital hall, Drama Theater, full costume and prop shop, and a concert hall are housed in this building.
*Drama Theater - seats 541 people. A revolving stage and a hydraulic orchestra pit are features in this theater. The
school performs four plays a year on this stage.
*Ruth Ann Barrus Concert Hall - seats 700 people. An 85 rank pipe organ complements the acoustics of the room.
The cloud above the stage can be raised and lowered to reach the desired sound. The large white wall at the back
of the hall also aides sound wave travel.
