Unit of Inquiry
Central Idea:The earths physical geography has an impact on human interactions and
settlements.

Recognize and use the four compass directions N, S, E and W
Know multiplication facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and begin to know the 3 and
4 times tables
Classify and describe 2-D and 3-D shapes
Measure and compare using standard units
Choose and use appropriate operations and strategies to solve problems, including
multiplication and division
PE:
Effectively solve problems requiring communication, trust, and an open mind.
Students will learn the many ways that problems can be solved.
Arts:
Student will learn about Mesopotamian history and art.
Students will learn how to use clay in their artwork

ICT:
Student will create a trading cards related to landforms using MS Word program.

Music:
Students make a composition to accompany videos of landscapes (and a city)

Look at a selection of movie clips to notice the music as it is set to pictures as another dimension of

Library:

We will find the nonfiction books about landforms and focus on nonfiction text features.
Each week, we will read a different part from a book called Baska Bir Ulkede Yasasaydin.

Announcements and reminders:

If you have old photos of Erbil, Kurdistan or Iraq, please send them over. Well make
sure youll have them back at the end of the unit.
We are looking for people who are very knowledgeable about the story of Erbil and
Iraq. Please let us know if you are willing to be a resource person for the Grade 2
classes.
You can help the students understand the central idea of the unit by discussing the
following questions:
o Where do people settle? What kind of place do people choose to build towns,
villages and cities?
o Why were cities or towns built where they were? or Why did people settle in a
particular geographical area?
