Courtney painton's classroom management philosophy is centered on student engagement and participation. High engagement is achieved through high energy lessons with auditory, visual, and kinesthetic connections being made at all times. Setting the students up for success is very important, as is setting personal goals and steps to achieve them. Classroom Management Plan Classroom Management Plan My classroom management philosophy is centered on student engagement and participation. Foreign and second language learning requires one hundred percent participation when learning and practicing. I center my lessons on studentcentered engagement and comprehensible input. High engagement is achieved through high energy lessons with auditory, visual, and kinesthetic connections being made at all times. Having a high energy classroom as a central component can also present a lot of challenges and obstacles when moderating the level of excitement and energy and refocusing it in a productive way in which a positive learning environment can occur. In order to achieve an energetic and engaged learning environment, I pride the concept of positive reinforcement. This environment creates a safe and caring place for students to learn and grow a foreign subject. Setting the students up for success is very important, as is setting personal goals and steps to achieve them. Students are praised often for effort and participation. Effort and participation is also valued very highly on a grading scale. Students are encouraged to participate in class discussion, regardless of language level. Frequent formative assessments allow for progress monitoring on an individual level. The emphasis on participation as well as a respectful learning environment does not leave room for students who are not there to learn or are disruptive or
disrespectful to others, the teacher, or himself. Negative comments or actions are
not tolerated and result in a loss of participation points which reflect on final grade. Continuation of a pattern of bad behavior which disrupt the safe learning environment, can result in meeting with parents and principal, and even suspension. The role of the teacher in an engaged and participative classroom is that of a director, an advisor, and leader. I believe in student-centered education that is led and managed by a knowledgeable teacher. Someone who can guide them in the right direction and provide the tools for success, rather than hand over the end goal. The teacher should present thoughtful and meaningful questions that create patterns of thought and interest for students. This will be achieved through meaningful, comprehensible instruction and strategies that further enhance authentic language materials. I want my students to feel challenged, inspired, and engaged in the classroom material and walk out of the classroom eager for more.
