CRISIS COMMUNICATION PLAN


Crisis Management Mission Statement
Any circumstance or event which provokes a threat to the mental or
physical well-being of Radford students is a crisis and will be treated as
a critical event. The procedures outlined in the crisis management
handbook provide Radford University with an appropriate procedure for
the dissemination of information.

Situation Analysis
The current situation regarding the new river valley blizzard and heavy
snow accumulation has resulted in Muse Hall's collapsed roofs. Radford
University is seeking temporary accommodations for displaced
residents in order to repair the dorm's damages as soon as possible.

Purpose
1. Notify all of the internal and external publics by releasing
information about the incident and stating it is top priority
through different forms of communication.
2. Provide any displaced students with housing, necessities or
transportation. The students safety and well-being will be the
primary concern.
3. Create a risk-management plan for any future similar incidents.

4. Consult with a legal attorney about providing coverage and


liability to any injured students.

Crisis Management Team


The individuals listed will lead in the Crisis Management Team:

President Penelope Kyle


Director of Radford University Public Relations Office
Provost
Dean of Students
Director of Residential Life and Muse Area Coordinator
Student Government Association Representative
Legal Counsel

Dissemination of Information
President Kyle and the Director of University Public Relations will serve
as the university representatives. These representatives will address
how the university will implement a comprehensive response to this
tragic incident. Press releases will be held daily to evaluate the
incident, how to prevent future incidents from occurring and to discuss
how certain issues will be addressed.

Statements of Objectives
Short Term

Provide quality housing and necessities for displaced students

day of incident.
Create a program for student organizations to assist in moving
the displaced students to their new location

Students will be placed in local hotels in distance of the

university.
Students will have the Radford Transit available every ten

minutes.
More Radford Transit buses will be provided and staffed by the

University.
The Dean of Students Office will excuse Muse residents for one

week who were affected by this incident.


Radford University will provide temporary amenities to students.
A new risk management plan will be created to ensure similar
incidents do not occur in the future.

Long Term

Fund new dormitories, which can accommodate the amount of


displaced students and prosperous students for the following

2014 Fall academic year.


Determine the cost and have the amount ready to fund by Fall

2014.
Implement new risk management plan for the following

academic year.
Follow up with a press conference in the Fall of 2014, after the
Residence Halls open.

Conclusion
In conclusion, internal and external publics will be updated daily of any and all
information regarding the current situation. Student safety never ceases to be
Radford University's number one priority.
Crisis Management Plans are reviewed and updated annually.
