The Rwandan Genocide marked a period of time where mass murders were

committed & thousands upon thousands died in the name of ethnic tension in East
Africa. Genocide raged for about 100 days & an estimated 500,000 to 1,000,000
perished. Ethnic tension may have built up to this event, but the Hutu people, East
Africas majority, started the Genocide. Theirs was an attack on East Africas
minority people, the Tutsi. The Tutsi had previously invaded Northern Rwanda,
attempting to defeat the Hutu-controlled government. This triggered the Rwandan
Civil War, which caused even greater ethnic tension & inspired many Hutu to gain
belief in the Hutu Power ideology. The Hutu Power ideology was spread by the Hutu
government, leading their people to believe that the Tutsi were to try to enslave the
Hutu. This left a bad taste in the Hutus mouths, & led to the killings of Tutsis.
The Rwandan Genocide of 1994 is only one example of mass-killings & violence
caused by lies, ethnic tension/bias, & ignorance.
Bosnian Genocide refers to genocide committed by Serbs on the Bosnian Muslims.
This genocide was in the name of ethnic cleansing. The Serbs targeted Muslims,
feeling that they were unworthy of living or being treated humanely. This ethnic
cleansing involved murder, sexual assault, rape, robbery, beatings, & more.
Upstanding individuals such as intellectuals, political leaders & professionals were
especially targeted.
Another example of recent genocide is in Darfur, an all Muslim region of Sudan
with tribes, nomads & farmers. The genocide was triggered by when the Sudan
Liberation Army & the Justice & Equality Movement complained to the Sudanese
government about the lack of protection provided to those who were being attacked
by nomads. The presence of guns alongside this complaint caused unrest, & the
Sudanese government responded by sending Arab militias to attack villages all
throughout Darfur. Hundreds of villages were destroyed & millions of people
perished in the name of a political control struggle.

In the broad spectrum of technology, computers are relatively new. Despite their
relatively recent appearance in technological advances, they have already made for
themselves a tremendous place in our daily life. From flying airplanes &
manufacturing uses to smart phones, computers play a huge role in our lives.
It is not a fact whether or not the role that computers take on is completely
positive or not. Some feel that computers are taking many peoples jobs from them,
that people are being brainwashed in a sense by computers, or that our
dependency on computers as a society is unhealthy. There are also those that feel
that the introduction of computers was absolutely necessary, given that they
provide us with luxuries & abilities we did not have previously. Despite peoples

opinions, there are facts on what the role of computer technology advancements
has had in developing the modern global economy & society. One major role that
computers play is in transportation technology, such as airplanes. Airplanes of
course arent completely controlled by computers, but computer technology is what
keeps them running & helps humans control them. Airplanes are only one amongst
many ways that we as humans have developed transportation wise. We have many
types of cars, boats, bicycles, motorcycles, jets, subways, & more. The ability to
transport from place to place with ease has definitely played a huge role in the
development of our modern global economy & society. If Columbus hadnt of been
able to sail to what we now know as America, things would be very different. But he
was, & we now have the United States of America. There are many more incidents
where travel has made things possible. Although transportation technology has
done a lot for us, it has some not so positive aspects as well. What we use to fuel
our transportation is harmful to the environment & sickens humans along with many
other species. Transportations negative aspects are difficult to come up with proper
solutions for, considering we rely on so many things that it brings us. We obtain
food, travel, medicine, & other necessary things by means of transportation needing
fuel.
