Observation and Analysis on Living Plant Cells

hmmm... The purpose of this activity :observing the living plant cell was to ide
ntify the main parts of a living plant cell and to determine the names and funct
ions of the various structures found within a plant cell?

The structural and functional unit of all known living organisms is cell. It i
s the smallest unit of an organism that is classified as living, and is often ca
lled " the building bricks of life". Wheter plants or animas it is composed of a
living substance called protoplasm. The substance is partitioned into microscop
ic, variously shaped compartments known as cells immeresed in a liquid tissue fl
uid.
Cells are divided into two primary classes the prokaryote, and eukaryote. Pro
karyotes are found in the domains of Bacteria and Archea, while eukaryotes make
up the remaining domain. Some eukaryotic cells have a cell wall like plants. Pla
nt cells are autotroph which acquire nutrients and create energy from sunlight t
ransforming light into glucose in their chloroplast. Plants also have cell walls
outside their membranes which provide a rigid frame for the cell. Autotrophs ar
e cells which are capable of producing food from raw materials and generate thei
r own energy usually by photosynthesis. Although in no-light environments, autot
rophs can carry out chemosynthesis. The shapes of cells are quite varied from ea
ch other such as parenchyma (a common type of plant cell) and erythrocytes (red
blood cell) being equidimensional. Some cells are encased in a rigid wall, while
others have a flexible cell membrane. The size of cells is also related to thei
r functions. Plastid is another important energy transducing cell organelle foun
d only in plants. Plastids are found in almost all cells of the plant body eithe
r in the form of colorless plastids or colored plastids or proplastids. Pigment
s are chemical compunds which reflect only certain wavelengths of visible light.
This make the appearance of a certain flower, coral, and even animal skin to lo
ok colorful. Pigments do not only reflect light but also absorb certain waveleng
ths. In plants, algae, and cyanobacteria, pigments are the means by which the en
ergy of sunlight is captured for photosynthesis.
