Procedure for Updating Language

Resource File for WinCollect

1. Introduction
This Procedure documents the process for updating the language text file used for
language translations within WinCollect. WinCollect is compiled with a resource file
which is used to translate each required string from a number to the appropriate language.
An intermediate step has now been included that allows fields within a text file to be used
instead of the compiled resource file. It works by reading in all resource strings from the
language.txt file during start up.

2. Scope
This Procedure is for use with the WinCollect Application Version 3.2.127 and above. It
is designed for clients in countries where a language other than English is required to be
used within WinCollect. It describes the procedure for updating the language.txt file
however the translations are the responsibility of the client.

3. Format
The format of the file is a TAB delimited file with three fields
Field1
Resource string number which is used by the WinCollect to assign a
resource string
Field2
Description of the String (in English)
Field3
Field to be used to enter translated string in appropriate language
e.g. 11172<TAB>Month<TAB>

4. Procedure
1. Open file Language.txt which is located in the WinCollect Installation directory (the
default location is C:\Program Files\Wincollect).
2. Scroll down to the appropriate resource string number (Field 2 has the English
translation which should assist the process of identifying the required resource
number.)
3. Select the end of the required line and press the tab key. From this position start
typing the translated string in the required language.
Note 1: New resource numbers may also be added.
However the resource number must exist within WinCollect
and the format must match that as described in section 3.
Note 2: WinCollect must be restarted if any
changes are made to the language.txt file
