Social Studies 10 Course Outline

Welcome to Social Studies 10! Im looking forward to our semester together!
Social Studies 10 builds on the foundation of knowledge, skills and attitudes you have gained. It offers
students an in-depth analysis of the challenges involved in building a nation. SS 10 contributes to the
important goal of preparing students for their future lives as Canadian citizens and members of the
international community. The curriculum is designed to engage you in critical inquiry into the challenges
faced by Canadians in the 19th and 20th century. By exploring a variety of perspectives in a thorough and
balanced manner, students develop the skills to approach persistent problems, questions, and issues with
confidence and purpose.
This course will focus on the development of Canada into a nation from the evolution of responsible
government to federalism as well as the trials and tribulations that occurred along the way. By
