Regarding
that
a
real
Buddhist
does
not
eat

and
he
or
she
is
strict
vegetarian:
Theravada
Buddhist

Centuries
after
the
death
of
Gautama,
vegetarianism
was
promoted
in
some
Buddhist
texts.
Perhaps
the
reason
for
this
is
due
to
the
fact
that,
according
to
some
historical
tradition,
the
bout
of
dysentery
that
Gautama
suffered
before
he
was
illuminated
occurred
after
he
ate
pork.
However,
even
today,
not
all
Buddhist
monks
and
nuns
are
vegetarians:
in
China
most
are;
in
Tibet
very
few
are.
If
strict
vegetarianism
is
justified
by
the
precept
of
not
killing
any
living
being,
Buddhists
who
try
to
follow
without
exception
this
rule
could
not
survive;
they
could
not
boil
water
to
drink
it
without
getting
sick;
nor
could
they
eat
vegetables
whose
production
and
harvesting
always
involve
the
deaths
of

of

and
non-microscopic
animals
In
the
Western
world
Buddhists
who
strictly

the
precept
should

Human

this

Regarding
that
all

This
issue
is
related
to
the
above,
as
part
of
pacifism
would
be
not
to
kill
animals
for
food.
However,
not
all
Buddhists
are
pacifists.
There
have
been
many
battles
between
Buddhists;
there
have
even
been
Buddhist
monasteries
that
had
their
own
armies.
Also
there
have
been
wars
between
Buddhists
and
non-Buddhists.
The
outstanding
example
is
the
struggle
of
Tibetan
Buddhists
against
the
English
invaders
in
the
last
century.
Moreover,
many
monks
and
Zen
masters
supported
the
military
expansion
of
the
